  • Well-kept, family-run and friendly park on the Welsh border
  • Spectacular views of the surrounding countryside
  • On a seven-acre smallholding 15 miles from Chester
Ladies, gents, solo travellers, couples, kids and the dog have quite the pick of places to roam around when staying at popular Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park near Whitchurch, as it's on the border of Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire with several days'/weeks' worth of activities and attractions in each. There'll be a rather warm welcome on site too from Pam, Richard and the team, who take pride in making their family-run park somewhere guests want to come back to. Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park is on a refined, peaceful and well-maintained seven-acre smallholding, which comes with first-class vistas of the surrounding Shropshire countryside and excellently-kept amenities. The pitches are decently sized and all have their own water supply and electric. Amenities include toilets, showers and a washing-up area (these all updated for the 2021 season), plus a fridge and freezer, a kettle, a hairdryer, and a washing machine and dryer (small extra charge applies). Barbecues are allowed on site: for supplies, the market town of Whitchurch is about six miles to the east, while Wrexham is about 10 minutes' drive west.

  • No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.
  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • As with most campsites it gets busy between 8am and 10am. Hot water is available 24 hours a day so best to try and avoid this time for showering if possible. The facilities are new and are kept immaculately clean.

What customers say

Great spot! Clean, peaceful, friendly owners. Toilets/showers spotless, heaps of hot water, big sites. Perfect for chilling or exploring. Some noise from events/late campers but mostly quiet. Limited facilities/Wi-Fi sometimes, but highly recommended for a good time.

Liked Nice and quiet site, toilets and showers well keptandclean

Disliked Would have liked to see an enclosed dog area so our little dog could run free as she is always ready to run around when ever she can.

From the manager: Hi Paul, thank you for leaving your review and pleased to hear you enjoyed the quite site with well kept shower and toilets facilities. Most of our guests consider these to be some of the most important factors when reviewing their stay with us. We really do try to ensure our guests all have an enjoyable stay. The 3/10 review is however slightly disappointing and it would appear the only aspect you disliked was not having an enclosed area for dog walking (we don't promote this facility). The Lady Willington site sits in about 4 acres and we are in the rural country side with endless country walks. We have our own Black Lab, and he enjoys long walks every day. We are very happy to suggest areas and walks for our guests to use during their stay - please ask. May we wish you an enjoyable summer and hope your next campsite provides better facilities for you. Regards Richard

Liked Campsite

Disliked Went there because it stated WiFi as for the password by text and email was told to call to get it, and they brought it out wrote down which had odd signs in it which in not available on our phones this is why she didn't text it to us, was available on my Netflix screen but no matter how many different ways we try it kept saying it was wrong, try there house network which we were given too but exactly the same response, it seems like they don't want you watching films or using your phones to use the WiFi were other sites just give you the password on the information sheet when you sign in.....

From the manager: Hi David, thank you for your interesting review. Firstly, we don't officially offer WiFi and if you review your booking and details on pitchup, you will see we don't provide WiFi as part of your pitch fees. However, there is very fast WiFi service in certain areas of the site, which we provide complimentary. Sadly, I suspect in this instance it was a simple user error and if you had come to see us, we would have been happy to assist. However, we are pleased to enjoyed the location, the value for money and the cleanliness of the site. I do hope you find another site with internet access during the summer months. Kind regards Richard

Liked Lovely peaceful site very clean owners were lovely. Toilets shower rooms clean. Hot water plenty. Plenty supermarkets around just have to drive there. We didn't connect to internet so can not comment.

Disliked Little bit far to travel for the supermarkets 5 plus miles down the road, back into England to shop. No little local shop.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Oh dear Marion - we have never had a 1 of out 10 before! I'm not quite sure our location to a local supermarket warrants such a low score. We have a farm shop next door (about 200 years away) which is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday and we have a local shop in the next door village of Hanmer which you can walk into. We are pleased to be in a rural area and the nearest supermarket is in Whitchurch which is about a 10 minute drive away. Very pleased you enjoyed the peaceful site, clean facilities and plenty of hot water. WiFi is not included within the booking, but we do offer free and very fast internet access on part of the site (not all over the site). I'm pleased you will return one day and look forward to extending a warm invitation back to stay with us. Regards Richard and Pamela

Liked Great level grass, spacious pitches, friendly owners, clean toilets, great hot or cold showers, no push button! Close to amenities, perfect camp site, no noise! Great WiFi throughout

Disliked The wasps… but nothing the owners can do! All part of it!

From the manager: HI Samantha
Thank you for your review - what a perfect review, which we really do appreciate. Regarding the wasps, sadly we live in the country and we do get them.

Liked Lovely peaceful site in a rural setting. Immaculately kept facilities with piping hot water in the dishwash area.
Spacious heated individual shower and toilet cubicles with plenty of provisions.
My dog and I had a lovely couple of days relaxing and enjoying the peace.
Pam, the owner, was very friendly and welcoming. She pointed out where the dog walking field and local pub was.

Disliked Nothing.

Local attractions

This be Roman country: nearby Whitchurch was founded by the rampaging lot around the time of Caesar (the first), on a main Roman road between Chester and Wroxeter. Chester, one of the main Roman towns, is about 40 minutes' drive from Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park and has a Roman amphitheatre to see as well as Roman remains and a museum at Dewa Roman Experience. Fans of other history periods also come to Chester to see its medieval and black and white buildings and its Grade I listed city walls, among the best preserved city walls in Britain, and the 11th-century Chester Cathedral. Back near base, stop off at the well-kept Whitchurch Heritage Centre to see some more Roman remains alongside exhibits and galleries taking the town up to modern times. Around the streets, make time too for the Clock Trail or one of the other several town trails: most fortuitously, most pass a pub… Also anciently, several castles, historic houses and National Trust properties are within conquerable driving distance – Chirk Castle, Erddig Hall in Wrexham, Combermere Abbey, Cholmondeley Castle and Bolesworth Castle just to start you off. All have regular events, including an international show jumping event at Bolesworth, and a Pageant of Power, Pony Club Championships and garden openings at Cholmondeley. Here to hike? Five long-distance walking trails start from Whitchurch's Jubilee Park, including the Shropshire Way which runs along to the Llangollen Canal, crossing the border between England and Wales. The Sandstone Trail, 34 miles through Cheshire and Shropshire, starts and finishes in the town. Other sights and sites nearby are Shrewsbury and the follies at Hawkstone Park about 20 miles away, and the early nineteenth century Pontcysyllte Aqueduct carrying the Llangollen Canal over the River Dee, a World Heritage Site with the wondrous Horseshoe Falls. Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, is about an hour and a quarter's drive away.
