  • Peaceful site a five-minute drive from Llangefni, in central Anglesey
  • Beaumaris Castle 25 minutes’ drive; Portmeirion one hour
  • Rural surrounding; dogs welcome; charging facilities
Gently floating off the shores of the northern reaches of Wales, the ancient island of Anglesey is a splendid spot for a whole range of outdoor breaks. And in the middle of the island, a few minutes’ drive from the A5 and A55 (aka the North Wales Expressway), is Ty’n Cae, a peaceful site that puts a whole host of brilliant beaches, castles and villages within your reach. Ty’n Cae sits in the small village of Rhostrehwfa, about a mile and a half (a five-minute drive, or a half-hour walk) from the slightly larger town of Llangefni, where there are shops, cafés and pubs. Also in town is the Nant y Pandy nature reserve, a peaceful boardwalk through a wildlife haven where you can also join the Lon Las Cefni cycle route. Back at base, you’ll be settling down on well-maintained grounds that are surrounded by wildlife and greenery. Ty’n Cae is the kind of laid-back place where you can bring the family along (including the dog, if you’ve got one) and gather around a barbecue while the sun goes down… The grass pitching field is set over a gentle slope and all guests have access to basic facilities including clean toilets (some of the composting kind) and hot showers. Chemical waste disposal, charging and recycling facilities are also available.

Power optional grass site

Liked Close to the town of Llangefni
Safe feeling of camp site/ to cars rushing by outside and people walking past the hedge.
Friendly host when she came round
Playarea for young children
Two happy pigs in a scrubbed field
Fridge/ £2 washing machine/ small clothes line
Hot water on demand even outside at wash up station

Disliked Tired feeling of campsite
Loos and showers OK but dark and windowless shed.
Host not there when arrived, email sent re pitch, which didn't see until parked up.
Pitches on a slight slope unless on gravel/ electrics.
Very small site 2 fields, tents in other field
Not much info on board, re pub opening hours, how close to walk to Llangefni, car boot sale every Sunday morning Mona airfield
No shelter to wash up under

Overall not a bad little site for tents, tourers or caravans.

Power optional grass site

Liked The site is only small, 18 pitches, and is ideal if you want a quiet site, toilets and facilities are basic which adds to its charm. It has EHU on each pitch with fresh water taps handy.

Disliked It can be quite windy on this site, but we managed.

Lovely quiet site with friendly staff and clean facilities.

Power optional grass site

Liked Really friendly campsite - decent facilities: toilets/shower etc. Our kids liked seeing the pigs, goats & horses. There’s a little playground for younger kids. Anglesey provided us with lovely sunset - would definitely stay there again. Thanks!

Disliked There was a slight slope to our tent pitch, but it wasn’t a problem.

Excellent site clean showers/toilets. Brilliant location and price

Power optional gravel site

Liked Linda so friendly and provides excellent communication from text message with all details prior to arriving to the friendly welcome when you arrive. Toilets/showers clean and additional toilet available if both showers in use. Washing machine provided for small charge and also freezer. Didn't have children but those on site seemed to enjoy the play facilities provided and seeing the pigs, ponies and goats. Little fenced off area also provided for dogs.
Will definitely look to return as spot ideal for visits around Anglesey, has a fab pub 10 min walk away or Llangefni a little further or bus stop small walk away.
Thank you Linda 😊

Power optional grass site

Liked Very good location, easy to find, staff really helpful. Near to lots of amenities and activities, toilets and showers EXCELLENT, no messing around with having to have a cold shower and squeeze into a tiny space to do it, showers are individual so lots of room. Play area, farm animals, lovely spot would stay again.

Disliked Only dislike was how exposed it was and there were very high winds but not the campsites fault obviously.

Local attractions

Overlooking the Menai Strait, Beaumaris Castle (25 minutes’ drive) is an unfinished fortress built by Edward I between the 1290s and the 1320s. A UNESCO World Heritage site (along with the castles at Conwy, Caernarfon and Harlech), it features four formidable rings of fortifications. Traeth Llanddwyn (25 minutes) is a sandy beach backed by vegetation-rich dunes that are home to assorted birdlife. The beach is sheltered from Atlantic currents by the Llanddwyn Island, which is peppered with historical remains, from Celtic crosses to watchtowers and the remains of an ancient church. Portmeirion (one hour), on the estuary of the Afon Dwyrid river, is a pretty Italianate village built in the 20th century. Buy a gelato, take a stroll in the piazza, lined with pastel-coloured buildings, and pretend you’re on the Amalfi Coast…
