Tyddyn Dedwydd Caravan Site: Hardstanding pitch

General

  • Well-maintained, quiet site five minutes' drive from Moelfre
  • Traeth Bychan, Lligwy and Benllech within five minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches among woods at the foot of Bodafon Mountain

In between Bodafon Mountain and Moelfre is a great location for an Anglesey holiday – so it’s handy that this exact spot is occupied by Tyddyn Dedwydd Caravan Site.

That location puts this small family-run site within easy reach of walking trails, beach days and plenty of useful amenities including a village shop, pub and café (all of which are down in Moelfre, five minutes’ drive away). There’s a pebble beach in the village too, and a sandy stretch over at Traeth Bychan (also five minutes), where you can rent kayaks and paddleboards or hang out at the café.

The site is surrounded by woodlands, so there will be plenty of scope for walking the family dog if they’re tagging along on your break (and they’re welcome to do so as long as they’re kept on a lead while on site). Those woods also create a quiet rural vibe on site, which is further boosted by a ‘no loud music’ rule so everyone can enjoy a bit of peace.

Everything is set up to make life nice and easy at this site – each pitch has an electric hook-up and water supply, and there’s access to toilets and showers. You’ll be allowed to bring along a barbecue to do your meals if you like too.

Please note

At least one of the party members must be aged 25 or over.

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Liked the water and electricity point on pitch.
People on site were very helpful and friendly.
Great site for convenience to local beach and public transport.

    Disliked:

Disliked unisex toilets and showers - made me very uncomfortable. Although clean, facilities would have benefited from a mop and bucket and squeegee for customers to clean after themselves.
Pitches were not very well thought out for motor home, caravan and campers etiquette. Campsite was excessively overpriced for facilities.
Campsite did not have any adequate signage for site which proved difficult for us or anybody else in motorhome or caravan.

Small quite site, good communal spirit, owner very helpful and has good knowledge of places to visit. We throughly enjoyed our stay. Site is very well situated on the island and not far from local shops.

    Disliked:

Suggest getting rid of the blue paper roles and using individual sheets to wipe hands and a big waste bin to put them. Then may be some campers will not use so much and put in bin properly.

Lovely little site near to Moelfre where there is a pub serving pub type food, 5mins drive away & also near to Benllech 10 mins drive away where there are take always, a petrol station & supermarkets etc. the site is near to the coast & 3 beautiful beaches. Local public walkways nearby.Very friendly & accommodating owner, who lives on site & is always about to check everyone is well, any problem dealt with accordingly. Unisex toilets & free shower block & dish washing facilities. Good hardstanding & grassy areas pitches, Added bonus is the ice cream van that comes during the evening.

    Water and electric on pitch.

    Disliked:

Pitches looked good but when we arrived found tents between pitches which was awful.
Even on their pitch the tent pitched on the grass right next to the caravan. A nice family but you could hear them talking at night. Not enough space and privacy and charged £40 a night was disgraceful.
Toilets are unisex so male or female could be using toilet cubicle next to you. Not happy with that.
No woods on site. Access from the Lane.
Would not recommend or stay again.

Local attractions

It’s highly likely that you’ll want to start with a few beach days around here – maybe trying out the watersports at Traeth Bychan (five minutes’ drive) or strolling through the dunes to the sands at Lligwy beach (five minutes). Other options might include outings to Benllech (five minutes), Rhosneigr (half an hour) or Newborough (half an hour), where you can walk through the forest to atmospheric Llanddwyn Island.

Staying inland, you’ll be able to walk straight from the site up to Bodafon Mountain, the highest peak on the island (although still eminently achievable at 178 metres). There are more excellent walks at Parys Mountain (15 minutes), an old mining area where work revealed all sorts of colours in the landscape.

From this site you’ll also be able to get out to some of Anglesey’s top spots easily enough – perhaps heading to Beaumaris Castle (20 minutes) or Plas Newydd House and Gardens (25 minutes) before taking in sunset at South Stack Lighthouse (45 minutes).
