  • Family-run site in a peaceful countryside location near Aberdaron
  • Well-maintained facilities and top spot for stargazing
  • Café serving breakfast, snacks and hot meals throughout the day
Set on the very tip of the National Trust-managed Llŷn Peninsula on the north Wales coast and overlooking Bardsey Island, Ty-newydd Farm is a fenced site a mile from the coast with heaps of space for kids as well as open fields aplenty in which to fly kites or get competitive at cricket. (Sinking down with a book, particularly while the kids are safely roaming free range, would be a highly decent option of choice too.) The family running this sheltered and long established farm and campsite are landscaping and developing it in an environmentally sympathetic manner to keep in manner with the scenic surrounds. It has ladies' and gents' toilets, two spacious showers, four shower units/rooms, a disabled-friendly shower and baby changing facilities. Two washing-up sinks with free unlimited hot and cold water are just outside the shower block; a water tap and waste water disposal point are halfway down the site along with a chemical toilet point. Ty-newydd Farm also has a well-stocked café serving breakfast, snacks and hot meals throughout the day; supplies can be sorted at Aberdaron village about a mile and a half away.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. Can I just query your ‘Disliked’ - Wash up area was basic esp if it is raining Sorry we are a bit confused are you talking about the dishwashing are that was on the side of the toilet/shower block or does this mean that we have a leak or a hole in the roof of our inside dishwashing area???? Where the other 4 sinks are and where the freezer for the ice packs is located. As this is the first we have heard of that water/rain is going in to the inside dishwashing area!! Liked: The view is lovely, the staff are very helpful, there's two toilet blocks.

Disliked: There's a lovely bar and cafe but it's open only until 5 - would be great if they opened a bit later. The tent pitches are good sizes but the toilet block nearest the tents only have two toilets and one sink, so it's a bit of a walk to do the dishes and your teeth. Nothing to put anyone off!

Liked: Individual pitch blocks that are numbered so you are allocated a number to pitch up at. Nice and secluded with a lovely headland walk nearby. Staff friendly and toilet and shower areas nice and clean. The weather was perfect so we had a clear view of the Milky Way for 2 nights and thousands of stars due to there being zero light pollution. Aberdaron is close by with lovely cafes and beach and a SPAR shop to pick up essentials and BBQ food.

Disliked: There could be more bins around the site As the only ones are up by the entrance. Reception and cafe only open from 10am-5pm so if you need change for the showers or WiFi then you only have to make sure you are back by 5.

Liked: Amazing place to stay. Quiet and respectful campsite. Staff are lovely. Toilet and showers clean. Stars are amazing, even saw the Milky Way with the naked eye. Yes it’s down a one track lane but there are plenty of passing spaces and people have common sense while driving around here. Overall 10/10 experience

Liked: Lovely site facilities are clean and nice. The cafe on site is lovely and was really busy when we arrived. All the staff where very welcoming and allowed us on our pitch earlier than expected. The pitch was an excellent size and on a field. The kids loved the open space to be able to running around and use thier bikes. 5 mintue drive into Aberdaron which has a beach and pubs along with a spar. Would definitely visit again

Disliked: The camp site is at the top of the headlands so the roads are very narrow especially towing a caravan. There is no signal and WiFi is limited to the cafe area and payable.

Unpowered grass site

Liked: The area, walks, friendly staff, food, clean facilities, live music at the cafe

Disliked: Lack of outdoor equipment for younger children- a swing or playground, just anything that would keep them busy! There is space, but it’s just not used.

Local attractions

The lovely Llŷn Peninsula is a stellar spot for walking, birdwatching, rock fishing and wildlife watching as well as stargazing: Ty-newydd Farm is in a highly rural area with very little street lighting and no industry (that means very clean air too). The clear night skies around the farm and the peninsula have been lauded by astronomers as the clearest they've ever seen in the UK, so settle down here of an evening to spy planets, millions of stars and even the occasional flaring comet… Local walks are sorted directly from the site to Aberdaron via the Mynydd Mawr monument at the top of the headland – you could miss out the Mynydd Mawr part of the walk if you're doing it in the evening to take in the also stellar sunset sinking down over Bardsey Island. If you're off to Aberdaron, have a hunt for St Mary’s Well or Ffynnon Fair, the freshwater spring at the foot of the Mynydd Mawr cliffs. It's covered by sea water twice a day, but you wouldn't know that by tasting it: bring and fill a bottle or two to take back home. And as you're this close to the north Wales coast, days out at the local beaches should also be hunted down: have them at Aberdaron, Abersoch, Porth Neigwl, Pwllheli…
