Paulo's Pitch bell tent

Liked: The surroundings, the views, the facilities, the hosts, the area, the tent, the stream, the extra touches. The hosts were so accommodating and welcoming. The location is perfect for exploring and short drives away from both Caernafron and Criccieth. The kitchen was perfect and really well put together so we had everything we needed. The picnic bench and fire pit meant family time was comfortable and cosy. The wild swimming was so much fun and the hot shower and charging area was a perfect addition to make our break that little bit more special.

Olimpio's Pitch bell tent (large)

Liked: A beautiful quiet location with plenty of space for the children to play. The tent was clean and presentable with plenty of space as well as the benefit of a fully stocked kitchen next to the tent with everything we needed. All we had to being was food, clothes and bedding which made it so much easier for us. The host was very friendly and helpful and once he made sure we had everything we needed he left us to enjoy our break.

Local attractions

Portmeirion (20 minutes’ drive), overlooking the estuary of the river Afon Dwyryd, was built between 1926 and 1976 in the style of an Italian village, with pastel-coloured red-roofed houses, a central piazza and a series of porticoes. The surrounding gardens, known as Gwyllt, feature woodland, lakes and follies. A UNESCO World Heritage site (along with the fortresses at Conwy, Beaumaris and Harlech), the formidable castle at Caernarfon (half an hour) was built by Edward I during his war against the Welsh princes in the 1280s. Going further back in time, the town also has the ruins of the Segontium Roman Fort. The National Slate Museum (40 minutes) occupies a former quarry at the bottom of Elidir Fawr mountain, and its Victorian workshops look as they would have in 1969, when the mine was closed down. In addition to demonstrations on slate splitting and blacksmithing, there are plenty of children-friendly activities.
