  • Rural site on a dairy farm 20 minutes' walk from Caernarfon
  • Half an hour from Snowdonia, Anglesey and the LlĆ·n Peninsula
  • Well-kept amenities including an accessible wetroom
Snowdonia National Park, Anglesey’s beaches, the lovely LlĆ·n Peninsula
if you fancy taking in lots of the local faves on your north-west Wales hols, take a look at handily placed Maes Carafanau Hendy Caravan Park. From this relaxed rural spot on a working dairy farm it’s around half an hour by car to all of the above, and a 20-minute stroll to historic Caernarfon, famed for its UNESCO-listed castle but also a popular place for poking about in the town’s independent shops and cafĂ©s. The Welsh Highland Railway and the LĂŽn Eifion cycle path pass by the site too, giving guests easy access to all sorts of ways to roam. Those in search of heaps of on-site activities will have to look elsewhere, as the Joneses have chosen to keep their place as peaceful as poss, focusing on doing the essential amenities to top standards. The large pitches have space to spread about a bit with access to electrical hookups and drinking water, and the top-notch bathroom facilities have hot showers, an accessible wetroom
and hairdryers for those days when the Welsh weather has messed with your mop.

Liked: Nice clean site, the shower block was under renovation to add more at the time of our visit, but the one that was available to use was outstanding. Washer, dryer available with an honesty jar. Only a 15 - 20 minute walk into town.

Disliked: There's was a slight whiff of cows on arrival but this is a working farm after all and this soon disappeared.

Liked: Stunning views of the mountains. Well laid out site with plenty of space. Water, electric hook up, and drainage on each pitch. Friendly and helpful owners. A short walk via a well maintained footpath in to Caernarfon. There were lambs and a calf in the adjoining field, which was lovely. The Welsh Highland narrow gauge train runs across the road to the site, which is a lovely sight to see. The toilet and shower block was immaculately clean. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely visit again.

Disliked: There are only two toilets and one shower for women, plus same for men, and an accessible shower and toilet. There is only one sink for washing up. Not a problem when we visited, as all the other campers were very polite and the site wasn't too busy. There's another toilet and shower block under construction, so hopefully this potential problem will soon be solved. The WiFi doesn't work in the far field, but good 4G signal everywhere, so that's not a problem. And who goes on holiday to such a beautiful area to sit on the Internet?!

Liked: Absolutely great location overlooking Snowdonia in the distance. Very flat gravel pitches, with water, electricity and grey water disposal. We love walking, great walk into Caernarfon following narrow gauge railway track plus numerous other paths. Price of ÂŁ27, very reasonable, have already recommended to our neighbour.

Liked: Nice site tucked away but close to all that we needed. Pitches were a good size with plenty of space to relax. The toilet & shower facilities were spotless. One shower for men and one for the ladies. Easy walk into Caernarfon with lovely path running by the side of the railway line where we spotted several steam trains running. Would definitely recommend. Working Farm, so heard and smelt the cows, chickens clucking and cockerell was enjoying life. Sounds of the countryside. Loved it. Great communication from Eilir with a contact point if we required anything. THANK YOU 😁

Local attractions

Start by taking a stroll into Caernarfon to see the mighty waterfront castle, a huge and well-preserved place with lots to see and plenty of puzzles and activities for the tiddlers; it’s worth having a look around the Royal Welch Fusiliers Regimental Museum while you’re here too. The Welsh Highland Railway runs steam train rides from Caernarfon: grab a spot at the station to watch them depart or get all aboard for the 25-mile ride through the mountains to Porthmadog. If you prefer to travel under your own steam, there’s easy access to the scenic 12-mile LĂŽn Eifion cycle path, a hard-surfaced path that skirts the edge of Snowdonia for some great views and village visits. For days by the seaside, cross the Menai Suspension Bridge to Anglesey – there are some lovely beaches on the island (Traeth Cymyran, 40 minutes away, is perhaps the most popular) – and the excellent Anglesey Sea Zoo, home to a seahorse breeding programme and the Lobster Hatchery of Wales. Head south instead and it’s around a half-hour drive to Pwlheli on the LlĆ·n Peninsula, for more splendid beaches as well as wildlife-watching boat trips.
