  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

What customers say

Pen Y Bont Caravan Park gets a thumbs up for top-notch, modern facilities, spotless ablutions, and super-friendly staff. It's in a ripper spot, close to Bala Lake and town, with spacious sites. Punters love the peace, tidy grounds, and handy shop. Mostly ace, though some mention road noise on a few spots and patchy WiFi.

Fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site (medium)

Liked Lovely clean site, level pitches, great location, 5 minute walk to a little secluded spot to launch the paddle boards. 20 minute walk into Bala

Disliked Not very impressed with the noise after 11pm some campers not really respecting other people may need sleep after that time. Shouting till gone midnight. But other than that good site would revisit. Would be nice to be not right next to the gate aswell road noise quite loud.

Liked It was a very good check-in experience. The environment was very good and clean. There were toiletries in the bathroom. What's more, there was an area dedicated to clean clothes. I will definitely choose this place next time I travel here.

Fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site (medium)

Liked It is well kept site

Disliked This was the dearest site we have ever stayed on, it's a small footprint with lots of pitches, we booked an xl pitch but personally was the smallest pitch we have ever had, compared to other fully serviced pitches. Not much to do around the area, the lake looks nice but no seats/viewpoints/picnic spots. No large supermarkets near so be prepared to pay max prices in the town shops. Chippy was nice but card only. Our experience felt cramped along with kids zooming along on bikes everywhere, pulling wheelies as no areas for them to play in. We did leave a day early.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We always wonder why guests leave us negative feedback regarding the price of the site as you knew the price when booking, so if you felt it was too dear, why not look for somewhere else?
We are only a small site but the pitches are evenly spaced with lots of grass areas scattered in between.
We have to disagree with your comment stating that there is not much to do in the local area; we are within an hour's drive of most major attractions, we have watersports galore for the thrill-seekers and beautiful lakes, waterfalls and walks to explore. The lake has lots of benches and picnic spots - if you were to pop into Reception we could have pointed you in the direction of our favourite places to enjoy too.
The major supermarkets are a 45mins drive away but online deliveries can be organised to bring your groceries straight to your pitch. Alternatively there are 2 convenience shops in town along with local greengrocers and butchers too - it is up to guests to research where they are staying and not to mark us down as a site for things that are out of our control.
Visiting us in the Summer holidays inevitably means that there will be a high volume of kids on site as we are a very popular holiday destination for families.

Sorry to hear you won't be visiting us again or recommending us to your friends, but hopefully any future guests won't be deterred by this review.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
