  • Dog-friendly fly and coarse fishing site with well-stocked lakes
  • A five-minute drive to Llandegla and a mile from the Offa’s Dyke Path
  • Tackle shop, tackle hire, café and family fishing pool
Avid angler? Or just want to have a first go at fishing? Either way, Llandegla Trout and Coarse Fishery in Denbighshire is home to well-stocked pools suitable for pretty much everyone. And that’s really no exaggeration. This family-friendly site is dotted with lakes for all levels: opt for fly fishing in two trout pools stocked with rainbow, brown, tiger and gold trout, or give coarse fishing a go in a couple of bodies of water filled with mirror and common carp, barbel, tench, bream, roach, rudd and chub. There’s also a worm fishing lake and a family fishing area for an informal intro to the sport, plus the on-site tackle shop – with kit to hire – is a handy addition for amateur anglers. Fishing aside, the park’s location a mile from ambles along the Offa's Dyke Path makes it a brill base for mountain bikers and walkers. A bunch of other outdoor activities are also available in the area, including a shooting ground and a horse-riding centre within a five-minute drive. As for sustenance (all that activity is hungry work after all), a café is on site dishing up free-range breakfasts and fresh coffee for the mornings, with other dishes available including fresh and smoked trout sourced from the park. Prefer to rustle up your own grub? Barbecues are permitted on base.

Unpowered grass and gravel caravan site

Liked: The location, the peace, the fact we got to go mountain biking, the friendly greeting, clean facilities, there's a cafe which serves breakfast and stays open til 3 pm.
All in all great places.

Liked: Great location for Llandegla Forest One Planet Adventure.
Clean facilities and hot showers.
Friendly staff.
WiFi was fantastic as no mobile internet or phone coverage for us.
Nice and quiet, picturesque.
Great fishing facilities but we didn’t use those.

Disliked: Pot washing area could be improved.
Marked pitches would help for EHU pitches as it was a little confusing where to camp.

Liked: Great site, friendly owner, clean facilities and beautiful views. Also dog friendly. Everything you need for a lovely stay away, hoping to visit again some day!

Disliked: Only dislike was the mens showers only had a shower curtain rather then a door, there was lots of people there and it wouldn't of took much for it to be whipped open!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: The food in cafe

Disliked: Toilets ran out of paper towels and toilet paper both nights we were there. We were made to feel unwelcome from arrival through to the kids having the last minute fun fishing in the kids pond before we left. I understand that they need to check if you have paid for fishing but when we paid for fishing for our whole stay one guy doesn't even say hello or how you getting on or can I check your tickets please? It was have you paid really loud in front of other fisherman. We had just as much right to be there and to be teaching the kids. But no the staff were just rude unwelcoming and as though we were putting them out. When we have been quite a few times before they had a guy working there and he drove round on a quad bike he really made that place welcoming and we kept coming. But I can honestly say we will now be going elsewhere.

Liked: Stunning location, grounds were well maintained, fountains were beautiful. Serene and quiet at night. A nice welcome in the cafe too.

Disliked: Facilities need upgrading - paper towels ran out, loo roll ran out, cob webs and dirty floors, men’s had shower curtains rather than doors (and a lack of hooks in one of the 2 cubicles meant storing your stuff on the wet floors). Washing up facilities had no sinks so you have to carry the bowl around the side (others were just tipping it straight out into the stone)

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Lovely natural grass tent pitches with benches and super shower block. Very friendly and relaxed owners. Dog to be kept on lead due to rabbits widely frollicing. Wild geese and birdsong woke me early, although i didnt have breakfast, i know it had a wonderful reputation. Got contacted on whaatsapp as i went later than stated. Would highly recommend for quiet walks and many different fishing pools.

Disliked: Woken early by wild geese!

Local attractions

Hire mountain bikes from an adventure centre a 15-minute walk from the site and soak up the stunning local scenery on a cycle ride. For those who like to fly high, the North Wales Gliding Club is five minutes’ drive away and cantering is to be had from the Cae Hic Livery & Riding Centre (the same distance away). You can also hone your gun skills at the Fauxdegla Shooting Ground (five minutes) or indulge your inner car fanatic at the Llangollen Motor Museum (10 minutes). For quieter times out in nature, lope to the Loggerheads Country Park and wander a wood-covered river valley or make your way to the Nant Mill Visitor Centre’s woodland and waterfall (all 15 minutes). Chuck a couple of structures into the mix with a visit to Dinas Brân’s castle ruins (15 minutes), then peer at the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (20 minutes), one of Telford’s Industrial Revolution designs. If the kids are in tow, take them to The Crocky Trail adventure park for stints on the slides and rope swings (35 minutes) or check out Chester Zoo’s sizable selection of animals – from aardvarks to zebras – across 51 acres of land (40 minutes).
