  • Well-kept rural Denbighshire site raising money for charity
  • A 10-minute drive to the beaches of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Catering on site from Friday eve to Sunday morning
Want to book yourself a break and do some good for the world at the same time? What an excellent idea – and one that you can bring to reality when you stay at Pet Rescue Fundraising Camp Site, a five-acre site in the Denbighshire countryside just outside the village of Dyserth. Profits from stays here go towards funding animal rescue and care – so perhaps it’s no surprise that dogs are welcome to join you for a little holiday here. Doggy daycare is available for those who need it and all dogs will need to be kept on a lead and supervised at all times (and you’ll need proof of full vaccination too). This location makes a splendid spot for exploring north Wales – a cycle path runs past the entrance with a link to the North Wales Coastal Route, and there are plenty of walks around too. Rhyl and Prestatyn are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for beach times, and there are castles, gardens and all sorts of other things to fill days with. You’ll probably get a bit of a warm glow from knowing that you’re supporting a charitable cause by staying here – and that’s likely to grow even stronger when you see the facilities that have been provided. A washing-up area, toilets and showers are all included, and you can boost your break even further by hiring a firepit, grass heat shields (these are required for firepits or barbecues) or a windbreak. Logs can be purchased on site for the firepits. And that’s not all – there’s also a catering area that serves up cooked breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks (hot, cold and alcoholic) as well as running events like pizza nights and hotpot gatherings. The catering is open from Friday evening to Sunday morning breakfast.

Liked: Nice big pitch

Disliked: The woman that works there has a horrible attitude its like your a massive inconvenience being there not nice when your there to enjoy yourself the weather was great and wanted to stay another night she couldn't give us an answer till 10 minutes before we was due to be off the pitch thinking we was staying with 3 children to then tell us we couldn't stay don't understand why she had to wait to tell us to top it off when I got off the sight I checked on the website and there was availability so I don't know why she did that upsetting 3 kids disgusting she's a power tripimg miserable lady

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Have very sad to leave such a negative review as your husband who asked if you could stay another night was brilliant and said it was because you had all enjoyed your stay so much. The reason I could not inform you if the pitch was empty another night was because I was doing the breakfast in the catering van and did not have time to go into the office and turn on the computer while I had other people waiting for breakfast service. I did not expect you to pack and leave within 10 minutes at all and never asked you to I totally understood and said no rush. If there was room on the website it doesn't mean on that particular pitch as pitches are allocated and we try to rest pitches after use if possible. You booked a one night stay! and non of our campers are an inconvenience the vast majority are brilliant and repeat visitors, but it seem there are exceptions I will say no more other than I find your comments sad and total unfounded under the circumstance as for your statement the woman who works there happens to be the owner and that's me who works a 7 day week from 8am often until after 7pm at night to provide the campsite so perhaps you should think before slating some one of their circumstances first. Wishing you and your family well, happy travel and camping in the future

Unpowered grass site

Liked: Bar, food options, great staff, lovely clean facilities and great new toilet block in main field. Shower was lovely and warm

Disliked: Nothing, it’s a superb site for an excellent cause. Only one tiny little bit of feedback: As an adult with mobility issues, having a closer toilet ( site 2) would’ve helped, however the new toilet block in the main field was a superb addition and excellently maintained

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank for you review and it was lovely to meet you, unfortunately we are not able to put a toilet block on site 2 as it's a non electric site but you could have hired a private chemical toilet for your pitch and if you visit again, also mention you are disabled on your booking form as we try to allocate pitches closer to the facilities. Plus we do have a brand new composting toilet & disable shower unit that's wheelchair accessible. Hope to see you soon, take care and happy camping and travels

Unpowered grass site

Liked: When I arrived inwas in distress as my camper battery light had come on and there was issues with the altinator bracket had come loose. The man running the site helped without question and fixed it all for me. This meant so much to me as I was anxious about driving it home the next day. The kindness and selfless behaviour has made a mark on my heart and I have recommended the site to all my family and friends. And also most importantly all profits go to their animal rescue centre which is also on site. Thank you so much xxx

Disliked: Confused by the one way system but that's probably just me being me :-)

From the manager: We are glad your drive home was safe with no mishaps, thank you for your review and you are welcome back anytime. Thank you for spreading the word x Safe travels and happy camping Marj & Lee

Power optional grass site

Liked: Pitch size was good. Electric on a meter but not expensive like some places. Location, especially to the waterfall and village

Disliked: Showers, location of toilets from far end, muddy site (but it did rain a lot)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank for the review and the fact you recommended to friends, our rate for meters charges are the same as stated on the booking forms and happy to say most people get a refund for usage. Unfortunately as an all grass site there is little we can do about the weather and if campers drive on and off in the wet it can begin to look like Glastonbury without the music, but we live in hopes campers normally park in the carpark to save the grass in wet weather and it was very very wet last month when you came the whole country was the same. Wellingtons always a good idea when camping. Happy camping and safe travels

Power optional grass site

Liked: Clean site, friendly hosts, close to public transport. Great for families. Play area and space for ball games.

Disliked: Pitches to close together. None to very little phone signal and WiFi connection.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: The pitch sizes are advertised and have been extended from last season, but unfortunately people are using larger tent i.e. 2 people in a 6 /8 man tent we are not able to extend the pitches or if we do the price would double? One answer is to book a double pitch if you need more room but it would cost double the price or we could start charging for the size of tent instead of per person? We did place you in a quite area due to your husbands health condition, thank you for recommending us to friends and we are sorry you feel unable to visit again. Happy camping and safe travels Marj, John & John

Liked: Loved the people there very welcoming, great food, kids enjoyed the park had a big game of kick rounders with a few of us, enjoyed our whole experience

Disliked: How far the toilet was from pitch 2

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So glad your enjoyed your stay and the children played really well, great game of kick around noted just what family holidays are about. The toilets are not that far and placed where the electric fittings are so you have flushing toilets and lights plus to keep you fit for your next visit. Happy camping Marj, J & J

Local attractions

Time to hit the coast? Take your bucket and spade to the sandy beaches of Rhyl or Prestatyn (both 10 minutes’ drive), get over to Llandudno (half an hour) to walk on the pier and ride the Great Orme tramway, or continue to Conwy (half an hour) to explore the castle. For rural walks you can stay local for the 15-minute stroll to Dyserth Falls, climb the peaks of the neighbouring Clwydian Range or dip your toes into Snowdonia National Park (40 minutes’ drive). The pretty pathways of Bodnant Garden (half an hour) are well worth a wander too. This being Wales, you’re never far from a castle – the turrets of Rhuddlan Castle (five minutes) are the closest, but TV fans may like to drop in at Gwrych Castle (15 minutes) to see where I’m A Celeb was staged.
