  • Small, quiet and friendly hike-in campsite in Eryri National Park
  • Direct links to Snowdonia Slate Trail and Marin Trail
  • Dark-sky site with firepits for hire; pubs 10 minutes’ walk
Time to embrace the peace and fresh air of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park? You'll really be able to do just that at Pitch and Hike, a walk-in site right in the middle of the national park, with no vehicle access. With spectacular mountain views and easy access to public transport, major footpaths and cycle trails (including direct links to the Marin Trail and Snowdonia Slate Trail), this is a cracking spot for hikers, cyclists and climbers looking to immerse themselves in the park’s wild landscapes. Parking is available at Tyn-y-Coed in Capel Curig (15 minutes’ walk) for a cost. A footpath leads directly to the campsite, or alternatively a bus from the village stops at the bottom of the track to the campsite. This quiet spot stays quiet thanks to a ‘no loud noise’ policy, and comes pretty close to wild woodland camping, but with the welcome comfort of modern flushing toilets. When you’re not off yomping up hillsides, snooze in a hammock, cosy up around a firepit or relax under the stars in one of the UK’s few designated Dark Sky Reserves. Firepits can be hired on site (in the interests of safety, no fires anywhere else please), while fire lighters, kindling and wood are available to buy. Within 10 minutes’ walking distance are a brace of pubs, so it’s no problem if you can’t raise the energy to spark up a barbecue after all that Snowdonian fresh air.

What customers say

Great spot for a peaceful escape, feels like wild camping but with handy facilities. Spacious, private sites with hammocks. Hosts are super friendly and know their stuff. Perfect for hikers, near great trails and views, with minimal light pollution. A bit tricky with gear sometimes, but highly recommended!

Unpowered grass and earth tent site (two person, small)

Liked everything, it's a basic site, almost wild camping like, but that's exactly what we wanted, just toilets, which were spotless. drinking water on site, and mel the owner was very kind and nothing was too much trouble, a perfect place to explore the local area and mountains. an absolute beauty of a place, cannot recommend enough, no WiFi but then we didn't want or need it.

Unpowered grass and earth tent site (two person, small)

Liked Welcoming and friendly owner, Mel - great communication before our stay and met us at the site to show us around. Lots of local knowledge. Lovely, quiet site - toilets were immaculate. Location was perfect and as described. Off grid feel but still close to local amenities. Fire pits available but due to the heavy rain, we didn’t hire. No WiFi but great phone/internet service which I wasn’t expecting - hence the rating.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Unpowered grass and earth tent site (two person, small)

Liked Great toilets, lots of thought has gone into the camp, gorgeous defined flat pitches with a hammock and privacy. Beautiful, peaceful with loads of birds! Perfect for the Snowdonia Slate Trail

Disliked A little hard to find, could do with signage on track maybe?

Unpowered grass and earth tent site (two person, small)

Liked The site was extremely well thought out to encompass the idea of wild camping. Having to hike to the location and no vehicles being allowed on site helped with the concept of low noise and a more natural fee to the site. The owners were very welcoming and on call whenever you needed which made purchasing the wood for a cozy evening fire pit a breeze. We were very fortunate to have very good weather for our two day stay which only enhanced our experience.

Disliked A bit of oil and a rubber stopper on the gate in to stop in banging and screeching would be Devine 😉.

Unpowered grass and earth tent site (two person, small)

Liked This campsite is exactly what I needed. Wild enough to not take the ‘shine’ of the nature but with facilities. After a 8 hour cycle ride from Wrexham I was greeted by Dave who is a lovely gentleman.

The site itself has flat and maintained pitches with extremely clean toilets and drinking water.

The fact that it’s not accessible by cars was a bonus for me. A graft of a ride up from Betws-y-coed up the A5 but well worth it.
