  • Spectacularly scenic riverside park in the Tanat Valley
  • Hikes directly from the site and Lake Bala 13 miles away
  • Two dog-friendly pubs within walking distance
Cor. Have a look at this site’s setting: parked alongside the Tanat river and surrounded by peaks in the spectacularly scenic Tanat Valley in mid Wales’ Berwyn Mountains, it’s right near the pretty village of Llangynog, where the Tanat and Eirth rivers meet. And there’s more: right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, Henstent Park’s surrounds are not only scenic but they're also handily set for jaunts to the market towns of Welshpool and Oswestry, plus the Vyrnwy and Bala lakes. The smashing views are 360 here – at every turn you’ll see grass, trees and mountains – and as the site’s bordered by a river, there’s the option to have a go at fishing nearby. This is a smashing site for walkers too: several hiking trails lead directly from the site and it’s a three-hour trek (or a 20-minute drive) up to Wales’ highest waterfall, Pistyll Rhaeadr. A gated dog walk runs alongside the riverbank (and one dog-friendly pub is within easy walking distance). The bathroom block – with free hot showers – has been hailed by previous guests as immaculate and spotless.

What customers say

Gorgeous, tranquil spot with a river and stunning views. Spotless facilities, super-friendly staff, and great walks for dogs. Local pub nearby. Mostly excellent, though WiFi and dishwashing spots could be better. Everyone wants to come back!

Liked Firstly when I arrived the owners were lovely, very welcoming, explained where I could pitch up, they then told me about a lovely breakfast spot down the road, where the closet shop was.

The pitch itself was beautiful, right next to the river, the electric was easy to access, we ended up having the whole space to our self which was lovely and felt very private.

The showers and toilets were cleaned regularly and always warm when we walked in. I would definitely recommend this place! It has a lot of things to do within an hours drive too!

Disliked The only thing I would say is having a bin/rubbish area a bit closer to where the pitch is, just easier for everyone to keep clean down in that area

From the manager: Thank you so much for your fantastic review – we’re absolutely delighted you had such a great stay with us! It’s lovely to hear that you felt welcomed on arrival and enjoyed the riverside pitch, peaceful surroundings, and the little local recommendations too. We’re especially pleased the facilities met your expectations and stayed warm and clean throughout your visit.

Love the pictures too:-)

We really appreciate your feedback about the bin/rubbish area as well – that’s a very helpful suggestion, and we’ll certainly look into ways to make this more convenient for guests staying near the river pitches.

It means a lot to us that you’d recommend us and plan to return, and we’d love to welcome you back again soon!

Liked Lovely welcome from the wardens. Level hardstanding pitch. Facilities were great and very clean. Loved the sound of the river running alongside and with great walks directly from site - lucky enough to see a peregrine falcon among plenty of other wildlife on show. Definitely plan to come back.

Liked A fantastic, well kept site in a beautiful part of the upper Tanat Valley. The backdrop of Craig Rhiwarth is spectacular, with the gentle sound of the river audible from our pitch. Nice access to the village pub via the riverside footpath. Lovely clean and heated shower and washup facilities. We only stayed one night and we are from the valley originally, so it was ideal for a visit. The site team met us on arrival and were really friendly and helpful. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

It’s great to know you appreciated the riverside atmosphere, the footpath access to the village pub, and our shower and wash-up facilities. Our team will also be very pleased to hear your kind comments about the welcome you received on arrival.

We’re especially glad the site worked well for your visit back to the valley, even if it was just for one night. Hopefully next time you’ll be able to stay a little longer and enjoy more of the area.

Thank you again for your lovely feedback – we hope to welcome you back again soon!

Local attractions

Several walks lead directly from the site, and you can lace up your boots, pack up a picnic and hike the eight miles up to Wales’ highest waterfall, Pistyll Rhaeadr if you’re feeling particularly energised. Other outdoorsy pursuits within easy reach include horse riding, fishing and cycling… And as the site is right near Llangynog village, you’re also well placed for challenging and spectacularly scenic bike rides around the Milltir Cerrig mountain pass along the B4391, which runs between Llan Ffestiniog and Llanfyllin. If you fancy checking out the area’s lakes, the route over the mountain to Bala – 90 minutes’ bike ride or 25 minutes by car – is a highly scenic one, and at the end you’ll be greeted by lots of watery sports such as canoeing, windsurfing and whitewater rafting, or climbing, hiking, cycling, abseiling, archery and campcraft if you’d prefer to stay dry. Lake Vwrnwy is an easy half hour away.
