The views from the camping field

  • Peaceful Powys pop-up site with spectacular Cambrian Mountains views
  • Llanbrynmair five minutes’ drive, and Machynlleth 20 minutes
  • Dog-friendly with woodland walks; pub and shop 15 minutes’ stroll
Wild camping doesn’t come much wilder than it does at Oakwood Wild Camping, five minutes’ drive from Llanbrynmair in Powys, Mid Wales. However, what this pop-up site lacks in facilities, it more than makes up for with spectacular Cambrian Mountains views from the peaceful pitches and the chance to spot wildlife in the surrounding woods and valleys. There’s a local pub and a basic shop within 15 minutes’ walk, but you’ll need to bring in torches, batteries and a supply of water as well as provisions. An upcycled compost toilet serves the site, and parking spaces are available a short walk from the pitches. The site owner asks that you please bring a sapling to plant if possible, or an unusual artefact to place in the woods, where you can walk (with any accompanying dogs) amid wild flowers in early summer. A small area is given over to sculptures carved by campers, so you can leave a permanent artistic legacy among the trees.
