  • Welcoming wild camping site in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park
  • Two miles to a trail up Pen y Fan; Four Waterfalls a half-hour drive
  • Meadow pitches with on-site walks; home-cooked meals on Friday night
Ca’s Camping is in pole position for anyone keen to get out and about in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (formerly the Brecon Beacons). Situated on the edge of the mountains, with glorious views right from your tent, this is wild camping in a peaceful, flat meadow on an organic farm with dairy cows, free-range hens and ponies. The dogs get to come on your Welsh adventure too (on leads please), and you can exercise them in the designated 2.5-acre meadow adjoining the camping field, which has a stream running through the middle for family splashings around. A 10-minute walk in woodland takes you to waterfalls on a tributary of the Tarrell River. Pick up barbecue supplies from handy supermarkets in Brecon (10 minutes’ drive, check out the historic cathedral too), where there are also masses of pubs, fish and chip shops and takeaways for those nights when no-one wants to cook. If you’re staying on a Friday night, eat on site at Ca’s Citchen, when the owner cooks a tasty farmhouse supper (with dessert) made from locally sourced produce. Eat outside under the pergola or take your food back to your pitch. On Saturday evenings, weather permitting, guests can also join Ca for a food experience in the woodland near waterfalls. Simple site facilities include a toilet and shower block (installed for the 2025 season), a washing-up area and rubbish recycling points. An added bonus is the standpipes providing drinking water straight from a spring in the mountains.

What customers say

This roomy campsite has ripper views & a top spot for Pen y Fan & local waterfalls. Basic but clean facilities, with recent upgrades. Owners are friendly. Some noise/basic amenity issues, but most loved the quiet and space. Great for a chill, no-fuss camp.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked So, this is a beautiful idyllic location, set in a really nicely maintained field.

Very basic and sparse facilities, think one shower and a couple of toilets each for ladies and gents. I had no issues with them, they were clean as they could be given heavy use and had constant hot water.

A large field with no restrictions on where to place your tent, which is always nice to choose...but...it does get a bit suspect when large parties form a 'wagon wheel' of extremely close tents and vehicles around open fires!!!

Disliked The biggest drawback to this site is the complete abscence of management, particularly at night.

As a result, this campsite is a bit of a free for all and incredibly noisy late into the night.

Expect large (drunken) parties and very late arrivals (after 11 pm) with all the sliding and slamming of doors and loud discussions that entails.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Casual, laid-back approach to campers, we arrived and didn't have to check in or anything, they just came over at some point in the evening to check we had a booking.
You can choose your own spot on the field.
Toilets kept being cleaned and loo roll topped up.
Excellent water pressure in the shower!
Really close to pen y fan.
Dogs allowed if kept on leads which was great for our group with 4 dogs.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Nice level field of probably 7 acres plus. Plenty of room between groups, pick your spot. Lovely views towards Pen Y Fan. Less than 10 mins drive into Brecon. Stayed Fri and Sat night so there were plenty of campers but didn’t feel crowded and it was pretty quiet especially after 11pm. Good place to explore Pen y Fan etc.

Disliked Showers and toilet facilities a bit basic but adequate. Not a major issue at all though.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Huge field, decent facilities and lovely meal on Saturday. Close to town and local hikes. Very friendly hosts and recycling sorted well. Felt welcome and friendly.

Disliked It would be good to have a few more toilets/ showers as only one for each gender which can get busy but not the end of the world.

Liked Quietness and friendliness of campsite, hired firepit and wood for few days from owner. Good area for walking dog across the fields. Lovely waterfall just down the road. Lovely views at the foot of the brecon beacon mountains. Few min drive to brecon town.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Spacious field, some shady areas too. Largely flat.

Lovely views to Pen y fan and the ridge, the starting point of the trail only about 45mins on foot (the NT Car park). About 25 mins from the car parks for the 4 waterfalls.

Facilties as expected for a no frills campsite- couple of hot showers, clean toilets, washing up sinks. A small covered area with a couple of tables.

They allow you to bring firepits too.

Nice and informal, we pulled up and found somewhere to pitch. Ca found us and came to say hello and welcomed us.

We had brought food for the next day but they offer home cooked meals on (I think) Friday and Saturday.

Will be back!

Disliked Minor suggestions- Might be worth putting up a map on the wall with a bit of local info, directions to walks etc.

Maybe a small freezer for chilling ice blocks for those of us camping.

Local attractions

The site is actually in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, so lots of hiking and cycling will probably be on the cards. You can start on the trail up Pen y Fan (two miles’ walk from site) for spectacular views over mountain ridges to the horizon. Another classic local yomp leads up to the Four Waterfalls (half an hour’s drive); get more outdoor inspiration from the National Park Visitor Centre (15 minutes). When something less hardcore is required, pedal or stroll along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal (10 minutes); otherwise there’s a golf course within five minutes’ drive and an indoor pool at Brecon Leisure Centre (10 minutes) – a handy diversion for any rainy days. Younger kids will doubtless love meeting all the cuddly animals at Cantref Adventure Farm, while teens can hone their off-roading skills at BattleMX (both 15 minutes). The National Showcaves Centre for Wales (25 minutes) is another great option for family days out, with its subterranean tours, dinosaur walks and recreated Iron Age village.
