  • Peaceful family-friendly rural Ceredigion site
  • A 15-minute drive from sandy beaches and 20 minutes from Cardigan
  • Back to basics camping with a hot shower and firepits provided
Rural getaways on the borders of Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire… that's what's on the menu at Meadow Camping, a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from the Ceredigion town of Newcastle Emlyn. This patch of rural Wales is particularly well-placed for getaways full of beaches, rugged cliffs, out-of-the-way coves and other types of exploring. If your holiday isn't complete without splashing about in the sea, this is a particularly top spot too: sandy stretches at Tresaith and Aberporth are 15 minutes away, and the long-distance Ceredigion Coast Path passes by both if you'd rather ramble along the clifftops. Can’t get enough of being out and about in nature? Nothing has to change during site days – this is back-to-basics camping at its best, with a quiet rural setting and basic facilities making time spent at base every bit as chilled as your fresh-air adventures. After long days of exploration, head back for a hot shower and a cosy night by the campfire (there are firepits dotted around, and wood is available to buy), or simply spend some time lazing about in the pretty meadow or by the shallow stream, watching out for regular wildlife visitors and taking in the view over the fields.

Local attractions

Culture-filled getaways start within easy reach of the site – it’s a five-minute drive to Sculptureheaven, a sculpture garden with workshop, galleries and tea rooms attached, and Newcastle Emlyn’s independent shops (and bars, restaurants, cafés and castle ruins) are within five minutes. Guests can trundle their way into the past with a trip on the Teifi Valley Railway (10 minutes) or Gwili Steam Railway (30 minutes), or by pointing the car in the direction of the National Wool Museum (10 minutes), Cilgerran Castle (20 minutes) or the National Trust’s Llanerchaeron (25 minutes). Slightly more urban days are to be had among the shops, restaurants and pubs of Cardigan (20 minutes), or wandering the harbour and beach at New Quay (25 minutes), where you can also sign up for sea safaris and dolphin watching. If leisurely days out in nature are top of the hit list, make tracks for Cenarth Falls (15 minutes), or stick closer to base fishing the ponds at the Rhydlewis Trout Farm and Smokery, five minutes away.

Valley view unpowered grass tent site (secluded)

Liked: Peaceful clean site, clean toilet and shower. Shower was hot. Easy supply of water. Our particular pitch was level and the ground wasn’t rocky. This is a basic site and if you go expecting that, you won’t be disappointed. If you have a big tent (ours is 3 pole/4 person), don’t pick our pitch (Valley View) as it was on the smaller size (the sizes are mentioned on the website for you to check). The sky at night was incredible!

Disliked: The firewood sold by the site owner included chipboard/contiboard and plywood which is really really bad to burn (mainly because of the glue).

From the manager: Thanks for your review. Lovely to hear you enjoyed the beautiful Welsh night sky. Our wood baskets are mainly made up of dried Ash logs however we do provide kindling using offcuts of other wood as we aim to recycle and reuse whenever possible.

Lovely campsite, very clean, peaceful and friendly.

Valley view unpowered grass tent site (secluded)

Liked: Quiet, basic and clean which is exactly what we wanted. Firepits provided was just perfect, as well as fresh eggs and firewood if wanted. Very well situated for a lot of different activities. Bakery nearby was great and the info provided about the local beaches was really welcome. Llangranog beach was just fantastic. Owners were very friendly and helpful, especially with freezing of ice blocks. Thanks for a lovely week Abby and Steve, we loved it!

Disliked: Probably our fault as our tent was pretty big but once that was up we didn’t have a flat surface anywhere to put our table, chairs and camp stove which sometimes made it tricky when cooking and playing games.

Liked: Wonderful little campsite. Secluded and peaceful. Back to basics but lovely personal touches like smoores kits to buy for a campfire. Really friendly and helpful owners, even finding a slide for my little one to play with.

Nature's corner unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Absolutely everything, it was wonderful. Huge thanks to Abby and Steve for such a lovely stay.

Obviously there was no wi-fi but that was a good thing, so I'm still giving 5 stars for the fact there wasn't any - we actually had conversations with our teenage boys instead. Internet connection was fine on both O2 and EE if we absolutely had to contact the outside world.

11 out of 10 for one of the most fantastic showers I have ever used! Beautifully hot and just what we needed after a day in the sea.

Wonderful little touches such as fire pits, s'mores kits and the fresh eggs really added to it and we felt very welcome.

Lots of wildlife in the area, the sky is rarely without a red kite in it somewhere, but a huge variety of birds heard and seen on the site including a lovely song thrush that serenaded us every morning and evening and tawny owls; bats and wildflowers. I love the fact that so much has been left wild for nature.

Disliked: Having to leave!

From the manager: What a wonderful review. We love it when others enjoy or site as much as we do!
