  • Peaceful pop-up pitches among natural Ceredigion woodland
  • A 20-minute drive from the Ceredigion coast; 10 minutes to Llandysul
  • Basic facilities provided, with campfires permitted and logs for sale
If you need a little break from the trappings of the modern world, how about running off to camp in the woods for a bit? Ceredigion pop-up site Ffoshelyg Woodland Camping, 10 minutes’ drive from Llandysul, is a fabulous place for that – pick a pitch here and you’ll be able to immerse yourself completely in nature while camping among well-established woodlands. What was once a neglected woodland has been given some TLC by the owners of the neighbouring smallholding, who have opened up some lovely little woodland glades where families, couples or groups of friends can set up camp among the wildflowers and wildlife – keep an eye (and ear) out for woodpeckers, wood pigeons and red kites, or see if you can spot bats and owls around dusk. This is a place that’s thoroughly rural, with lovely countryside views all around and not a building in sight (other than the smallholding’s farmhouse). It’s a great spot to chill out and fill your senses with the natural world, or to let kids go on bug hunts and play among the trees. Unsurprisingly, the owners are keen to preserve this special environment, so they’ve provided just the essential facilities in the form of portable toilets, a drinking water tap and rubbish and recycling facilities. Campfires are permitted in the stone rings provided, with bags of seasoned logs available to purchase (please don’t collect branches from the woods). There’s a hardstanding parking area just by the woods so you won’t have to lug your kit very far.

Liked: Very cool and comfortable place, owned by lovely people. There are some lovely features eg fire pits, hammocks, toilet paper and soap. We were able to buy some wood and had a fantastic fire, protected from the rain by the trees. It was a lovely time and we'd definitely go back.

Local attractions

There are lots of lovely countryside spots to visit nearby – perhaps you’d like to head to Cenarth (25 minutes’ drive) to see the waterfalls and National Coracle Centre, go canoeing on the River Teifi from Llandysul (10 minutes) or explore the numerous themed areas of the National Botanic Garden of Wales (45 minutes), which also has play areas and a fairy forest for the kids. Outdoor activities? Plenty of those around too – including horse riding, fishing, golf and paintballing. Llandysul is a ‘Walkers are Welcome’ area with lots of trails to follow and wild areas like the Coed Y Foel Woodland Trust reserve. For longer hikes you could head into the western stretches of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (45 minutes). And although you’ll feel completely surrounded by countryside on site, it’s worth also knowing that the coast is close by as well – in fact it’ll only take you a little under half a hour to get to some gorgeous beaches like Penbryn, Tresaith and Cwmtydu Cove, all linked by the Ceredigion Coast Path. New Quay (20 minutes) is a top choice too, for its dolphin-spotting boat trips.
