  • Peaceful Ceredigion site with sea views and friendly farm animals
  • A mile from the Wales Coast Path; five minutes' drive to Aberaeron
  • Well-equipped shared kitchen and communal firepit on site
There’s a warm welcome for all guests at Arth Valley Retreat – not just from the owners, but also members of the menagerie that lives on this Ceredigion ex-dairy farm. There aren’t any cows on site any more, but the pigs, sheep, chickens and pygmy goats are a friendly bunch, with many of them being happy to receive a stroke from the guests. When you’ve greeted everyone suitably, you’ll be able to take in the lovely views around this site – pitches look out over the Arth Valley in one direction and the coastline of Cardigan Bay in the other. On a fine day, you may be able to see as far as the peaks of Snowdonia. Sizeable marked-out pitches mean you’ll have plenty of space to take it all in; a picnic table is set up on each pitch and you’ll be able to bring an awning or gazebo to get your space just as you like it. The modern toilet/shower block is a short stroll from the pitches, and has various essentials provided (not just loo roll and hand soap but also body wash and shampoo). Much effort has gone into making sure guests don’t have to cart loads of things along on a stay here – the shared kitchen has pans, utensils and various things like oil and salt, and there’s an honesty shop for things like logs, kindling and charcoal. These are things you’ll need for an evening by the communal firepit, which often becomes a sociable place for chats and a bit of music. This is a lovely base for exploring the Ceredigion coast – it’s a mile from the sea and the Wales Coast Path, with Aberaeron and Aberarth about five minutes’ drive away and New Quay 20 minutes.

Unpowered grass tent or campervan site

Liked: Really cannot recommend this fantastic site enough! If you are thinking of booking do it, you won't regret it. We were travelling as part of a group with children from 6 - 14 years and there was something for everyone. Lovely playground, great area to view and feed the animals, large grassed area for games, we had footballs and Frisbees with ample room to play without disturbing others. Well set out toilet/showers, very nice hot water and cleaned regularly. Fully equipped kitchen area - including fridge, freezer, microwave, and every possible utensil you could need. The pizza oven was incredible! Highly recommended giving it a go. The honesty shop was fully stocked with charcoal, kindling, logs, fire lighters and lighters all extremely reasonably priced and so convenient. Perfect to use on the communal fire pit. Absolutely beautiful walk on the grounds to a water pool and waterfall, perfect for cold water dipping. The site really is perfect, spectacular sea views down the valley, privately hedged from the road, secluded by trees to the other side so gives a very private and safe feeling. Really made to feel welcome by the family/owners, we will definitely go back.

Disliked: Wish we had booked for longer 😀

Fenced unpowered grass tent site (pet friendly)

Liked: This is now our favourite campsite! The owners were so friendly, and clearly take a lot of care over the site - the facilities were amazing, including a microwave, toaster and kettle. The toilets and showers were a great size and very clean. The ground for the pitches are flat, we all had very comfortable nights there 👌🏻 The play area was so lovely - the children played for hours with the other children on the site, deep in imaginative play with the lovely play kitchen, pebble food (love!!), and teepee. Plus it was in clear site from all the tents, meaning we adults could actually sit back and read/play games/relax whilst keeping an eye on all the kids playing. It was perfect! The fenced off pitch with a gate was a lot of fun for the kids too - they called it our camping garden! It also meant we could leave our games like croquet set up outside without tripping other campers up 😆 The farm animals were a bonus, we loved visiting them and feeding them. The kids are already asking when we can go back, hopefully it won’t be long…!

Disliked: As somebody else said: Leaving!!

Unpowered grass tent or campervan site

Liked: Hot showers and clean toilets. Quiet and peaceful location.

Disliked: Non EHU pitch price is expensive for what it is. This was our first stay of our week tour of west and nrth wales and the cost was rhe highest for a non EHU pitch. The pitches are not level and we couldn't get comfortable at all being on a slope on the highest point on the ramps. No waste disposal for toilet or grey waste and couldn't find a fresh water supply anywhere to fill our water container. Had to fill up water bottles to top up the container. The honesty shop was a nice feature, but i found the items to be quite expensive for what you would pay in a local garage.

Fenced unpowered grass tent site (pet friendly)

Liked: Fantastic views, good size pitches, beautiful amenities, choice of communal firepit to meet other campers. Real fire pizza/cob oven to cook in of you wish, well equipped communal kitchen with fridge, microwave, sink, utensils pans and even a electric hob I believe. The bathrooms are lovely, clean and we'll sized. The Sean and family are absolutely amazing and welcoming, you can truly see this site is a great passion for them, also if your lucky enough to be offered some home made pizza, jump at the offer they were amazing, the sourdough bases were freshly made there and then. P. S thank you for the sourdough starter, (which we've now named Arthur... After Arth Valley 😂), fed it last night when we got back and this morning we're enjoying sourdough crumpets!

Disliked: LEAVING! 😂
