  • Family tourer site five minutes’ drive from the M8 in Renfrewshire
  • Half an hours’ drive to central Glasgow; 25 minutes to Loch Lomond
  • Award-winning restaurant and cocktail bar; horse riding
With horse riding available and an award-winning restaurant and bar to boot, you’ll never be short of something to do at family-friendly The Paddocks Touring Park in Renfrewshire. Easily accessed from the main M8 motorway, this is a handy overnighting spot on the way to the scenic west coast of Scotland, or if you’re keen to spend a few days exploring the local area, central Glasgow is half an hour’s drive. Hardstanding pitches have stunning views over hilly countryside around Bishopton, and each comes with a 32-amp electric hook-up, a water supply and waste drainage. If you are self-catering, you’ll find most of what you need at the small supermarket in Bishopton (five minutes’ drive). Alternatively, Palomino’s bar (stay over on a Saturday night for live music) and restaurant is open from breakfast to dinner, and there’s a food and drinks delivery service available between 12pm and 8pm. Most flowers, vegetables and herbs used in the restaurant are grown on site in polytunnels, and honey is produced in the beehives – guests are welcome to purchase some to take home. The practicalities: convenient facilities include modern showers, a laundry (additional cost), washing-up sinks and electric vehicle charging points. With 24-hour security, you’ll know that all your stuff is safe and sound on site. Two dogs are welcome per pitch, but please ensure they remain on the lead at the pitches. For horse riding, book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Liked: Views and location where great, facilities where nice. Dog exercise small field was a good touch. The food from the restaurant at the country club was awesome.

Disliked: Seemed to be a couple of caravans that seemed to be permenantly pitched there, not sure. Also a lot of traffic going past to what appears to be a storage area for the stables and builders vans... just a strange vibe... a bit uncomfortable, felt like we where intruding. Wife said she felt like she was in someone's bathroom as there was stuff in the shower and hair in the tray etc... mens where clean for me I had 0 complaints.

Disliked: Not a dislike but wish I had known dogs are not allowed in the bar or restaurant so had to be left in van alone.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: The location is beautiful and the facilities are of a fairly high standard.

Disliked: Staff in restaurant complacent and not really very helpful or bothered that you were there. Wouldn't eat there again because of this. Poor selection on non-meat options on menu. Only one fish option of which they had run out. Two out of the three showers in the female block ran ice cold and would not heat up at all. And why the radio SO loud in the shower/toilet block!?

Liked: What a wonderful place. Very. Wry well maintained and kept. Food was delicious. Cocktails too.

Disliked: As a father of two kids, I think our kids would be bored here. Nothing obvious to keep them amused.

Local attractions

Known for its cool shopping and lively nightlife, Glasgow (half an hour’s drive) also tempts with its myriad art galleries, museums and formal gardens. The Burrell Collection (25 minutes) stands out with an impressive hoard of decorative arts and masterpiece paintings, and if you’re travelling with kids, there’s a huge display of vintage cars and interactive exhibits in the Riverside Museum (20 minutes). If cities are not your thing, turn north to Loch Lomond (25 minutes), where you can get out in the fresh air on boat cruises (20 minutes), play golf on loch-side courses or walk and cycle for miles in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park (both half an hour). If you’d care to venture a little further afield, Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park (55 minutes) makes a fun day out for all the family with giraffes, endangered Amur tigers and a life-size dinosaur trail. Lofty Stirling Castle (50 minutes) is open for guided tours of its historic chapel, centuries-old kitchens and regimental museum.
