  • Wooden cabin with mountain views on the outskirts of Pitlochry
  • Five minutes’ drive to Pitlochry Festival Theatre; 15 to Ben Vrackie
  • Woodburning stove, outdoor kitchen, barbecue, pizza oven and firepit
Well, what a lovely wee place this is. Wee Blue Dream is a comfy log cabin on the edge of Pitlochry in Perthshire, sitting in a wildlife garden where birds dive-bomb the pond and your nearest neighbours are chirpy sparrows. Best of all, there are uninterrupted and rather splendid views of Black Castle ruins and Ben Vrackie. Wee in stature the cabin may be, but inside it’s certainly not short on thoughtful touches. A woodburning stove keeps you all cosy, sofa beds can be folded away to make more room during the day, and the kitchenette is kitted out with everything you need to magic up meals, as well as some basic supplies. Depending on the weather, you can eat at the table inside the cabin or out on your private decking, where you can cosy up by the firepit, spark up the barbecue or pizza oven, and chill with a glass of wine in hand. A shower for your exclusive use is close by (10 metres from the cabin) and as you don’t want to waste a moment of your holiday cleaning up, there’s a dishwasher on hand too. The site owners are committed to reducing their environmental impact, so electricity comes from renewable energy, firewood is locally sourced and water is warmed by a heat pump. If you'd like to leave your car at home to reduce your carbon footprint, by the owners will collect you from public transport if you arrange in advance.

Liked: Loved everything. Martin and Shannon were amazing hosts, really friendly and knowledgeable. They recommended a few local places to go with the dog and for food etc. The cabin itself was stunning and equipped with everything you need. It was a nice touch to have coffee, hot chocolate, spices etc. We decided to eat out but the hut had great cooking facilities including a ninja, pizza oven, gas bbq. The location was also perfect. Situated in a small residential area but it was very quiet so looking onto the fields felt you you were in the middle of nowhere. It is a 15 min walk into Pitlochry or 5 min drive and everything you could need is near your doorstep. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay look forward to using the wee blue dream again in the future.

Local attractions

Perthshire is a centre for active holidays but you can be as adventurous or lazy as you wish. For gentle strolls, join the footpath to Black Spout Wood (half an hour’s walk) or follow the Linn of Tummel walk (10 minutes’ drive) for gorgeous Highland scenery. For truly spectacular mountain views, hike up to the summit of Ben Vrackie (15 minutes). Hire electric bikes to take the effort out of pedalling from Pitlochry Boating Station and Adventure Hire at Loch Faskally (five minutes), or rent kayaks to get out on the water. Serious toughies can up the adrenaline levels on the bungee jump at Killiecrankie Zip Park (10 minutes). Pitlochry (15 minutes walk) is a lovely spot for a round of golf on a course with views down the Tummel Valley. There are multimedia exhibitions on hydro-electricity and salmon breeding at Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre (10 minutes’ drive), where you can watch salmon leap up the fish ladder between April and September. Rainy day? Book tickets for performances at Pitlochry Festival Theatre, or if you fancy sampling a wee dram, take a tasting tour of Blair Athol Distillery (both five minutes).
