  • Glampsite with spectacular mountain views near Blairgowrie, Perthshire
  • A 20-minute drive to Glenshee Ski Centre in Cairngorms National Park
  • Insulated accommodation pods; heated communal bothy with full kitchen
With spectacular Perthshire views to the peak of Schiehallion and snug-as-a-bug, cosy accommodation, you should certainly be in for a splendid stay at Glenshee Glamping near Blairgowrie. Run as a sustainable site for many years, it beckons guests looking for a peaceful stay in a gorgeous corner of Scotland as well as a comfy base for outdoor adventures. And what about amenities? Spick-and-span showers are all heated and insulated with lashings of hot water to come back to after a day on the hills. The heated communal bothy is kitted out with a woodburning stove as well as full cooking and dining facilities. When the weather’s playing ball, grill up a barbecue on the firepit and eat alfresco on your personal picnic benches. At 15 minutes’ drive from the scenic Cairngorms National Park, the site is in pole position for outdoor adventures ranging from hill walking to skiing and kayaking. Not feeling the urge to get out and about? There’s plenty of room for the kids to run around in safety on site – but just remember to bring a sledge in case of snow during winter stays. In summer, you can simply laze around all day long, taking in those mountain views, or ask to meet the animals any time of year – after all who can resist cuddly donkeys, llamas, goats, free-range ducks and chickens? Talking of animals, any well-behaved four-legged friends are welcome, but please keep them on a lead while you’re on site.

Mulberry cabin

Liked: We were 5 of us and we stayed at Glenshee Glamping in their Mulberry cabin. It had all the facilities you would want and was we enjoyed our stay here thoroughly. Their kitchen and bathroom facilities were clean and very well equipped. The bothys have plenty of cooking equipment and the beds are super comfortable with warm wood fired heating. I also highly recommend it for families to travel along with kids since there's lots of animals like chicken, rabit, goats, sheep, donkeys and Lamas to name a few. Nathan is a very friendly host too.

Disliked: Nothing i could think of. However a microwave oven in the bothy would have been a nice addition.

Unpowered grass tent site (large)

Liked: Just lovely. great site, great hosts and great location. We had a large tent pitch and it was huge, very secluded and great views. It was so nice to sit around the (optional) firepit under a star filled sky. Lots of animals wandering around and it seems that it would be great for younger kids.

Liked: Lovely well kept pitches, each one separate, unique and private with its own natural screening. Lovely scenery and peaceful. Car park is a short walk from pitches but you can drop off tent and belongings at kitchen/shower block and use one or 2 of the many provided wheel barrows to transport to to your pitch - added to the adventure. Many extras on offer including pitches with decking, fire pits … a hot tub and different accommodation types … and loved the animals

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Unpowered grass tent site (large)

Liked: This was a magical camp site. Greeted by alpaca (or possibly lamas) passing a charming playground completely in keeping with its surroundings and lead to our patch and greeted by sheep! The layout gives this campsite a really charming and quirky feel and they have done wonders to make it wholesome and quaint as you can imagine. The facilities were spotless and felt very new. I could not recommend this campsite enough and we will definitely be returning.

Disliked: Sheep poo but it’s to be expected in the countryside and a small price to pay seeing the delight on the kids faces

Local attractions

In a dither about what to do first? You can soon be out and about all day long around this part of Scotland… hill walking or trail running, rock climbing or mountain biking, wild swimming or kayking, hiking through forests and around lochs – call Outdoor Explore (20 minutes’ drive) and they’ll organise everything for you. And that’s just in the warmer months… when it’s colder, Glenshee Ski Centre is 20 minutes’ drive north for snowboarding, cross-country and downhill skiing, as well as lessons for complete novices and gear hire too. For a tour of mighty baronial castles, perhaps begin at Balmoral (50 minutes), the Scottish home of the Royal Family and open (when the King isn’t staying, anyway) for tours of its surprisingly homely rooms and walks along the River Dee. Other historic residences to visit include Scone Palace (50 minutes), where Scottish kings were once crowned, and Blair Atholl (35 minutes), home of Scotland’s only private army, the Atholl Highlanders, and an exceptional collection of weaponry.
