Liked: Location was really good for exploring the area. The food and drinks in the restaurant were lovely and staff all very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Disliked: The toilets could have been cleaner but this would be the only thing I think could be improved.

Local attractions

Both Ballintoy and Ballycastle are on the coast road to Giant’s Causeway, the alleged stomping ground of giant Finn McCool and the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland. Make a day of it by quivering across the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (don’t look down) and calm your nerves afterwards with a toddy and a tour at Bushmills Distillery. Ballycastle is the ferry point for Rathlin Island, six miles off the coast. This RSPB reserve and tiny island is a must-see: get the Puffin Bus to the west coast to peer at the colourful critters up close, then stroll south to see the seals and the ruined stone cottages from days of yore. For day trips, the seaside towns of Portrush and Portstewart are where many Northern Irish folk meander to on a sunny day: Barry’s Amusements in Portrush is an institution, and Portstewart has to be visited for a roll down the sand dunes.
