  • Grass pitches at a family-run working farm in Pewsey Vale, Wiltshire
  • A 15-minute drive to Avebury and Silbury Hill, Stonehenge 40 minutes
  • Canalside no-frills location; village pub and shop 10 minutes’ walk
A wonderful base for exploring all the mysteries (think crop circles, standing stones and neolithic burial grounds) of Wiltshire, Bridge Farm is a family-run organic sheep and beef farm by the side of the Kennet and Avon Canal and amid the spectacular chalk downs of Pewsey Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The camping field is at the foot of the Pewsey Downs Nature Reserve, with a backdrop of Iron Age Rybury Camp and Alton Barnes White Horse. Being situated next to the canal towpath, it’s handy for kayakers, paddleboarders, walkers and cyclists, while the hills behind the farm are very popular for paragliding. Basic camping facilities include fresh water taps, portable toilets and bins. A pop-up farm shop takes care of all your essentials: free-range eggs for a breakfast fry up and Bridge Farm burgers and bangers all ready for the barbecue. Round and about the farm, you may meet sheep, chickens and pigs as well as the herd of Ruby Red cattle. Further afield, there’s a convenience store and a decent pub with occasional live music in All Cannings (10 minutes’ walk), and another at Honey Street (50 minutes), where crop-circle enthusiasts often gather.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Relaxed feel, pitch anywhere basis. Quiet area with no light pollution and beautiful views across to Salisbury Plain. Fabulous walks from the campsite and lovely pubs nearby.

Disliked: Couldn’t complain about anything, does what it says on the tin! Basic facilities but the location makes up for it.

Liked: Rural location

Disliked: Not the fault of the the campsite owners but the family, despite there being loads of space, pitched right next to me and made a lot of noise.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: A lovely quiet and basic site. We were greeted by Robbie the owner who made us feel very welcome. The field is large so there’s plenty of room to be distanced from others. On the field, there are two clean portaloos and a cold water tap with sink. It also has a small tent shop with eggs, logs etc and additional provisions can be ordered from the owners. There’s plenty to do without taking the car. We walked over the Pewsey Downs and above the white horse. There’s also the quirky Barge Inn and lovely Honeystreet Cafe about 30 mins walk along the canal. For us, this was a perfect place for a few nights stay.
