If you’re the type of person who starts counting down to next Christmas on December 26th, you might very well be interested in bringing a bit of the yuletide season into your summer break with a stay at Somerset Reindeer Ranch, a great spot for adventurous sorts and those who want to wake to the gentle sound of the reindeers strolling around. This farm is home to a selection of Santa’s fave animals, plus it has a ‘unicorn’ for the kids to meet (you'll need to arrange this in advance though, to make sure it's not, ahem, out spreading magic elsewhere). Other activities that can be booked on arrival include My Little Pony, Peppa Pig and mermaid experiences for the kids. Stroll through the wide open spaces at the family-run park in search of Dasher, Blitzen and co, then settle in at the seating areas in the enchanted garden for picnics next to the firepit; there’s also a fancy barbecue hut for meals undercover should the weather be more Christmassy than summery. Here to explore the countryside as well as the site’s lush grounds? The park is in prime position for touring Somerset and a couple of other counties as it’s five minutes’ drive from Yeovil and around half an hour from the Dorset and East Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site limits numbers, so guests will have a little pocket of isolation to themselves when staying here, and there are also ample spots to leave your car.

  • Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.
  • Electric vehicles are welcome but will incur a £20 overnight fee and guests must provide their own charging equipment.

The owners were so lovely! Very helpful and gave us a little tour. The animals are beautiful and clearly very well taken care of! Such a beautiful place with a lovely vibe and such amazing scenery!

Camping lodge

Liked The lodge was absolutely stunning. Dave the host was very nice and welcoming. Toilets were very clean all the time. We really enjoyed the animals, especially the kittens 😍 We really liked everything and definitely we will be back.

Disliked It’s not a dislike but the information about bringing your own logs would be useful.

Reindeer Loft cabin

Liked The animals. The owner. Sarah was very nice and informative when showing us around.

Disliked The room was above a barn. very smelly and lots of flies in the room. The heater didn’t heat the room as the heat just passed through the gaps. We stayed in the reindeer loft. Maybe add curtains to the windows as people could see into your room.

Okay place for a night on the way somewhere with kids. Very quirky.

Liked The location was good for visiting the Fleet Air Arm museum.
The owners were very friendly.
The reindeer were good to see and there were lots of other animals.
Kids thought it was magical.
Facilities were clean.

Disliked It could do with more bathrooms.
I didn’t read the small print properly and had not got camping mattresses or mats, so the wooden benches were very uncomfortable and kids kept rolling off in the night.
I am allergic to cats and the cats kept wanting to come in too, which was irritating. The kids adored the cats though.
The place could do with more maintenance - swing wasn’t in good shape, mermaid feature not working.

Reindeer Loft cabin

Liked The peacefulness, the reindeer of course and the cats! The hosts were incredibly kind and helpful. Truly a unique experience sleep above reindeer.

Disliked Not a dislike as such, but whilst I appreciate it’s glamping, access to a communal fridge would be so helpful.

Liked My partner, myself and our two boys aged 6 and 8 had the most wonderful stay ever! The accommodation was perfect, more magical and special than we had hoped. The animals are incredible especially the reindeer who we got to mingle with and feed. Sarah and Dave are the perfect hosts and went out of their way to make our visit truly wonderful. Cannot fault the place! We are going back in December and no doubt many more times.

Dome camping pod

Liked Welcoming hosts, had a whole farm tour which was wonderful. Obviously farming is a passion of Sarah’s. Beautifully lit fairy lights and some gorgeous animals who are clearly loved in such a rural location. Happy to help and suggest places nearby to visit. Secure site.

Disliked Spider nest within the artificial flowers of the dome insides. No pegs to hang towels up in bathroom (would be really helpful please!). Slippery wooden outer circle where BBQ area is where wood has rotted but nothing a bit of TLC can’t fix.

Powered grass tent site

Liked Loved all of it the hosts were lovely and so friendly it was very safe for the children. It was quiet and easy to find. Would definitely stay there again!

See more spectacular Somerset scenery at Cheddar Gorge (50 minutes), dropping by the Wookey Hole caves for some kid-friendly subterranean adventures while in the area (40 minutes).
