  • Small, level touring park in Banwell at the foot of the Mendip Hills
  • Two miles from the M5 and five from Weston-Super-Mare
  • Plenty of open space and spectacular views
As the owners of Myrtle Farm Holidays rightly point out, its setting at the foot of Somerset's Mendip Hills means there's something here for all sorts. Weston-super-Mare is only five miles away, hilly hikes are on the doorstep, and within a quick drive you'll be at famed Somerset and Wiltshire spots like Cheddar Gorge, Bristol and Bath, Stonehenge, Longleat and anciently idiosyncratic Glastonbury. Its semi-rural location a mile from the village of Banwell has it easily accessible too: Junction 21 of the M5 and Worle train station are both two miles away and Bristol airport within 11 miles. Under new ownership since 2016, Myrtle Farm is a family-run, small and level touring park, welcoming families and adults, and facing south with excellent views. It's well maintained and spacious with plenty of room for kids to run around. Amenities were updated in 2019 and include a rebuilt shower and toilet block with underfloor heating and disabled facilities, and a new kitchen with a washing machine and tumble dryer, all spotlessly kept and supplied with soap, shower gel and shampoo. A wifi hotspot can be accessed by the amenities. Village pubs, shops, restaurants, takeaways, a post office and a castle (cream teas in the summer, anyone?) are all a mile away at the farm's local village of Banwell.

Liked: Immaculate facilities. Very friendly welcome and staff. Great for a stop over on route to Cornwall. Couldn’t fault the site, just spot on.

Disliked: Unavoidable but there is road noise, however it didn’t bother us and we got a good nights sleep

Field 2 unpowered grass site

Liked: Campsite was by far one of the cleanest sites I have ever visited, the toilet and shower blocks are like a hotel! Diane was lovely and we purchased a jar of home made apple and onion chutney for a family member. Pitch sizes are good and ample enough room for our tents and cars. A bonus being next to the dog field so we got to see all the cute dogs 🫶🏻. Thank you for giving us our end of summer holiday weekend. Will definitely visit again.

Liked: What did I like… not a lot!

Disliked: Pitches are very lumpy, the owners are very rude, not sure if we caught them at a bad time or not but felt as though we were judged completely as we were young group of friends with our children! We kept to all the rules, but were reminded that our fire must be out at 10, this was at 9.45 and felt watched until it was out! Owners did not say hello to us as we passed, just ignored us! The extra fees are silly, pitches are big enough for 2 cars but we had to pay extra for the 2nd car, late check out £2 per hour… felt completely watched until we’d packed everything up and left! Would never return here, road noise is hideous, other campers were not watched or given the 10pm reminders like we were! One family had their fire on past 10pm and no comments! If you’re a group of friends with young children, do not go here, you will not be welcomed at all! Also, the instructions and rules on everything is ridiculous! I called on arrival, as told in the instructions through email, I was ignored then when the owner approached my car, was told give me 5 minutes I’m busy… then continued to moan about someone arriving early and not having time to mow the pitch before they set up! Also no signs as to where to go or where the ‘reception’ is until you’re entering field 2 and pass the gate! - Safe to say we will not return! Can see why it’s cheap!

Liked: Very clean and tidy showers were clean and nice!

Disliked: I felt very looked or frowned upon, being told @ 945 that we are to make sure we keep an eye on our fires to be out @ 10pm. Personally I think that is because we had friends next to us and we all had young children! And I think maybe the owner was worried maybe we was there to party but in actual fact we was there to make memories with our children as the following night we realised other people (without children) were allowed their fires going after 10pm. The road is really noisy @ night & daytime. Wouldn’t stay again just due to the fact that we was being watched the whole time.

Local attractions

The Myrtle Farm Holidays setting at the foot of the Mendip Hills has it perfectly placed for outdoorsy days, with a vast pick of walks, cycle routes, fishing and birdwatching within easy distance. By car, Cheddar village and the famed and fab Cheddar Gorge are very close by, as is the teeny city of Wells with its cathedral and independent shops. The National Trust-managed Victorian Gothic house of Tyntesfield is ten miles away. Another cracking option is Glastonbury, with its independent shops and cafés, museums, Glastonbury Abbey and Glastonbury Tor. The golden sandy beaches, seaside shops and wide range of restaurants and bars at Weston-Super-Mare, Brean and Burnham-on-Sea are all within a short drive. You'll also be within easy driving distance of the cities of Bristol and Bath and their shopping, theatres, cinemas, museums, bars and restaurants. Travel a little further to get to Wiltshire, where must-sees include Stonehenge and Longleat.
