River axe

  • Quiet family-run farm in the Somerset countryside
  • Set over 100 acres a short stroll from eight miles of beach at Brean
  • River Axe fishing, play area and café serving meals all day
Have a day at a Somerset beach… then retreat back for a Somerset farm and countryside stay at Diamond Farm Holiday Park, on 100 acres of serene space within walking distance of Brean. Take the bus from just outside the farm or stroll 20 minutes along the local footpath to reach the eight miles of beach at Brean, for days of sandy basking and beach walks, amusing hours in the leisure park, and hikes on Brean Down (which is viewable from the farm). Within easy driving distance are days out at Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury and Wookey Hole Caves; leaf through the tourist info at reception or ask the team for tips on what to see and do nearby. The farm is in a peaceful spot for peaceful times in among Somerset adventures, with views over to Weston-super-Mare and the Mendips. It has a level and spacious play area with swings and slides, fishing on site in the River Axe flowing alongside, and easy access to riverside walks in quiet countryside. All accommodation areas are a short saunter from the site amenities: two separate blocks of washroom and shower facilities consistently hailed as spotless by chuffed former guests. Head out on a full stomach whatever activity, beach or attraction you opt for from here – the Diamond Farm café serves meals all day from English breakfasts to late-night snacks, and there are provisions at the small but well-stocked shop. Barbecues are allowed on site too.

Liked: Me and my mum stayed for 3 nights and absolutely loved every second. It was so peaceful and quiet. The farm walk along the river axe was amazing. Toilets and showers were spotless. The pitch size was large(we had an electric pitch). Staff were very friendly and food we did have on site was excellent. The whole place was spotless and clean even with dogs being there. All grass was maintained very well. Can’t wait to stay again.

Disliked: Only downside was the shop closing at 2.30 and the cafe at 1.30 so we had to drive into brean and Weston to have evening meal and go to a shop. Signal is very bad there too.

Liked: Flat pitch, lots of space, beautiful views, very quiet and peaceful. Well looked after, lots of hardworking staff keeping on top of things from housekeeping to ground work. Very reasonable rates. Not far from the M5 and very easy to find. Reception always open during day, friendly, helpful staff. Night warden always available after hours. Toilets and showers plentiful and very clean and tidy.

Disliked: Nothing to do with campsite but just a warning for others who might like to do the same as us. We like to leave our set up and have long days out, so we always use the bus, the bus stop was perfect, right outside the entrance but the service is the worst ever, unreliable, always late and overcrowded. Not one day did the bus arrive on time. The wait was from 20 minutes up to an hour. One day it got to 2 hours, two days the bus didn't even stop. Spent a lot of time during the week waiting at bus stops. Not able to plan a day beforehand, spoilt our stay, for that reason we will not be looking to stay in this area again. I will get in touch with First, hopefully it will improve. As for the campsite too many dogs off leads.

Liked: Loved this site. So relaxing. Very friendly staff in every aspect of the running of the place. Reception, cafe, shop, cleaners, I thank you. Well stocked shop. Cafe was amazing with great prices. Catered to my 2 fussy 6yr old Granddaughters without hesitation. Toilet block and showers cleaned regularly. Park area perfect and clean. Apparatus great for their ages. Nice big plot next to the River Axe where we managed to see a family of swans in the mornings and lots of ducks. Two happy 6yr olds and a very happy nan. Thankyou Diamond Farm. Will see you again soon for sure.

Disliked: Not a site problem but the bus to Weston did not stop at the entrance even though it was a proper stop and the driver looked straight at me as I waved for him to stop and drove straight past even as there was 6 people waiting...

Fully-serviced concrete slab site (private bathroom amenities, deluxe)

Liked: We had a delux pitch, own toilet and shower and storage room. This was great. Pitch was great too, right next to the start of both walking, cycling paths. All the staff were great, Bent over backwards to help nothing to much trouble.

Disliked: This is personal to us as we cannot walk very far and we had our staffy so we could not make use of the cycles. So we had to use our car to go anywhere, shops beach, into Brean town.

Local attractions

Brean Down is one of the Diamond Farm team's fave views from the site: have a day here for wildlife watching and hiking among spectacular scenery, before descending to the beach and café at the bottom of the Down. Bring your camera too, as the views here are stellar, over the Somerset Levels as well as over the Bristol Channel to south Wales. Also recommended by the team is Brean Leisure Park (five minutes' drive or about 35 minutes' walk), one of the largest funfairs in the south-west and home to rides, rollercoasters and the Brean Splash waterpark on a 200-acre setting. Even closer to home at a mile from the site is the Animal Farm Adventure Park, with a play barn, slides, ball pools and a menagerie of goats, donkeys and llamas and other furry critters to see. Beach buffs can drive along to the sands, pier and helicopter museum of Weston-super-Mare (25 minutes' drive to the north) or Burnham-on-Sea (15 minutes south), for wide open sands, several lighthouses and access to the Somerset Levels. Then set off for days out at Cheddar Gorge (35 minutes), Glastonbury (45 minutes), the Wookey Hole Caves (50 minutes) and the small city of Wells, 55 minutes away.
