  • Peaceful Somerset escape at a family farm on the outskirts of Bath
  • Bath Racecourse five minutes’ drive and Bath Abbey 15 minutes
  • Communal firepit; barbecue hut, sauna and hot tub all extra
Looking for a peaceful spot that’s handy for the historic sights of Bath? Off-grid Lansdown Campsite is set on a family farm in stunning countryside atop Lansdown Hill, with views over the city yet far enough away to be unaffected by its buzz. It’s also a clever choice if you’re weekending from London or Wales, as the site is only 15 minutes’ drive from Junction 18 of the M4. So what’s included with your stay? Modern showers and a washing-up area, drinking water and a communal firepit (free to use with purchase of a bag of logs), just the job for cosying up around after days of exploration in Bath and Somerset. Luxurious amenities that come with an extra charge include firepits for personal use, a barbecue hut, sauna and hot tub. Dogs are more than welcome, and they can have a stroll around the farm fields (please keep them on a lead). The site is right opposite Lansdown Park and Ride (catch Service 31 right into Bath city centre; it runs every 15 minutes), so you can abandon the car for the duration of your stay. It’s also around 20 minutes on foot from Bath Racecourse and a couple of foodie pubs.

What customers say

Great spot opposite Lansdown Park & Ride for Bath access. Friendly staff (shout out to John!), flat pitches, and clean loos/showers (new ones added!). Busy times can be a squeeze for facilities, and washing-up water could be hotter, but management's on it. Secure and peaceful.

Unpowered grass and gravel motorhome site

Liked Great little site for an easy hassle free stop over in Bath. John was really helpful via text messages/email. Parked up in the gravel overflow car park by the main house. Proper flushing loo and shower here to use… others down in the min field which we didn’t use. Had put up Xmas lights which was a lovely little touch. Very secure as only in and out with your code! Great location for park and ride.. less than 5 mins to walk for bus in to Bath centre. Thanks John… hope to be back again 👍

Disliked Nothing…..was great…if I was being really picky then maybe another separate loo at the top as shower and loo in one unit but having one worked well enough 👍so no complaints

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked Close to the park and ride was amazing!

Disliked Extremely muddy, no electric hook up so we were very cold and wet all the time. The water in the hand basins was freezing cold. I know the site couldn't do anything about the weather but not having any hard walkways meant that we were constantly covered in mud and only cold water to wash it off. The shower was hot but I didn't feel clean afterwards because of the muddy floor.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked The location is perfect to hop on the bus into Bath city centre.

Beautiful sunrise and countryside feel (apart from the main road but this can’t be helped)

Disliked It would be good to have hot water at the wash basins to wash hands and face.

Unpowered grass and gravel motorhome site

Liked Very easy to get into Bath. We went in mid- October in a camper, so not busy. An attractive site. Facilities fine, but quite basic. We didn't use it, but the sauna looked fab. Secure gate at entrance.

Unpowered grass and gravel motorhome site

Liked Right on the edge of Bath, literally opposite the park and ride so we walked over, caught bus into town for the day, went sight seeing, few beers and bus back.

Disliked £30 per night and no electric hook up seems steep however you soon realise you are probably paying for location as it doesn’t get better/easier to visit Bath than pitching up here!

Local attractions

First stop Bath? Take a bus into the historic city centre (15 minutes on the bus) to visit the ancient Roman baths complex, the neighbouring abbey and the Jane Austen Centre. If you require a bit of pampering, book saunas and massages at Thermae Bath Spa, which has cracking views of the abbey from its rooftop pool. When you fancy a stroll from your pitch, head for Beckford’s Tower and Museum (10 minutes’ walk), a neoclassical folly with spectacular views over Bath from the top of the tower. You can be on the long-distance Cotswold Way within 10 minutes’ drive, and there are also a couple of golf courses around 15 minutes by car away. When you have young kids who need entertaining, your best bet is Avon Valley Adventure Park (20 minutes’ drive), a petting farm with a soft-play centre. There are brightly painted barges to see on walks along the Kennet and Avon Canal from cute Bradford-on-Avon (25 minutes), and an aqueduct built by engineer John Rennie in 1801 to check out at Avoncliff (35 minutes), where you and the family can enjoy lunch in a historic canal-side pub.
