  • Simple Somerset farm pitches in a handy spot close to the A38
  • Cheddar Gorge and Burnham-on-Sea beach 10 minutes' drive
  • Riverside location in Lower Weare; village pub a minute's walk away
Seeking a slice of Somerset serenity – but without the need to negotiate lots of little winding roads? Somewhere that you can soak up the rural views but also find plenty of attractions and activities nearby? Peak View Gardens is just the place – this chilled-out campsite is on the banks of the River Axe in Lower Weare, and it’s just off the A38 for easy journeys in and out. The village location is a handy one, as it means you’ll be a mere minute’s walk from the local pub (a family-friendly place with a skittle alley as well as home-cooked food and plenty of local beers and ciders to sample). If you’d rather cook your own dinner, that’s fine too – guests are welcome to bring along a barbecue and pick up supplies from the butcher or supermarket in Cheddar (10 minutes’ drive away). Cheddar is, of course, also the place to pick up some cheese for your picnic lunch – and home to one of the area’s top attractions in the form of Cheddar Gorge. Other ways to fill your days around here might include hitting the beach, visiting one of the local animal parks, heading underground at Wookey Hole or exploring the pretty streets and cathedral in the tiny city of Wells (England’s smallest city, in fact). As the site’s on the edge of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there’s also the option of getting out for a scenic walk – with the closest route being the one up Crook’s Peak, right next to the site. This is a peaceful and simple site with hot running water, but guests do have access to a shower and portable toilets.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Useful to be able to drive the car up to the pitch to unload/load. Toilets/showers were close and it was a nice sheltered campsite.

Disliked: Toilets/showers weren’t always very clean and ran out of toilet roll a couple times when we were there. Most likely due to busy period and design of the toilet/shower blocks allowing for build up of mud.

From the manager: Hey Suzy, I am so sorry that the toilets were not up to standard. This has been fed back to the team and shall be monitored more regularly.

Bell tent

Liked: Lovely campsite, great location and a very safe environment. It was a great space for the kids to run around and play with friends but not so big we had to worry where they were. Kids loved the alpacas too. We had a bell tent which was the perfect size for us and included beds so we just had to bring bedding along. Showers and toilets were cleaned frequently. Would definitely go again.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: The campsite was great, cool view of the hills from the field and really liked the Alpacas. All the tents with fairy lights looked magical in the full moon. Danielle and the family were great hosts, really friendly and helpful. Would recommend the walk from the footpath right next to the campsite which takes you into the hills for an amazing view of Glastonbury. Stayed 4 nights and had a great time.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Great for camping and glamping! Danielle and Brett were so, so lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. The site was nice and intimate which meant the kids could play safely and make friends. We stayed an extra night than intended, really enjoyed our stay. Toilets and showers cleaned everyday, always some loo roll. Nice to have alpacas for neighbours - the kids loved them! Close to Winscombe for takeaways and the Coop, and of course Cheddar and Weston-super-Mare. Superb. Thanks guys!

Disliked: Nothing. It was great!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: ✅️Lovely pitch (short grass, level, kept tidy), ✅️amazing people running the place (always happy to help), ✅️very clean modern bathrooms (all 3 showers had nice hot water, good pressure, all 3 toilets cleaned at least twice a day, mirror in each cabin), ✅️nice spot to wash the dishes and refill water bottle or tank ✅️easy access by car (possibility to bring car straight to pitch spot to unload or pack, car park very close to tents), ✅️animals just over the fence (which is very nice addition for kids), ✅️5 bell tents light up in the night making awesome atmosphere, ✅️eye pleasing views and within 15-20 minutes drive to attractions for day out trips, ✅️pick-your-own strawberries field 5 min walk down the road ✅️well stocked petrol station very close (literrally 2 min drive) ✅️dog friendly ✅️beauty studio just by the car park

Disliked: front sign could be more visible or slightly bigger but google had no problems to find it river next to campsite isn't the one you would like to take a dip in

Bell tent

Liked: Lovely little campsite close to Cheddar. The alpacas are very cute and the field is well set up for children to safely run round playing together. The bell tents are great. Recommend bringing a canopy or small gazebo if the weather looks iffy so that you can still sit outside.
