  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers and a launderette
There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park, a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities should cater to your every holiday need. For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini guests. There's also an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy… More? There's an indoor soft play area. Also use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil-hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are on the cards. The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: internet access and clean up-to-date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs… and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

Liked: We really liked the swimming pool & soft play! The site was clean. Staff friendly. Good location to Charmouth beach.

Disliked: We were on a pitch that was at the top of the hill and on a slant. We didn’t have any wedges to make us level.

Powered concrete slab caravan site

Liked: We couldn't complain about anything to do with the actual camp. All the facilities were clean and adequate for our needs.

Disliked: We were disappointed at the level of road noise from the A35 which travelled wherever you were on the site. We live in a city and was hoping to just hear the birds. The site promoting information should also state there is payment for the pool which is usually included in your pitch price. The proxy to the beach is also a bit unrealistic.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked: The beautiful views and cleanliness of the site including the bathroom block. Spar shop for essentials The bar staff very friendly and pleasant and food menu good although we didn’t order anything. pools looked spotless

Disliked: Showers had a section to put towels and sit while drying and 2 hooks for clothing but the shower tended to spray wide so the seat was often wet. Needed to be more separate from spray. No individual wash cubicles

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: location good - short walk/even shorter drive from Charmouth beach and very close to the main road for travel, yet still fairly quiet good facilities - toilets, showers, self-serve launderette, a SPAR shop, restaurant, games room, pool and soft play all on site lots of choice of accommodation types

Disliked: some pitches are uneven shop is expensive toilets, while clean, needed a bit of attention. Some cubicles had faulty flushes and locks.

Camping pod

Liked: Peace & quite, tranquility with amazing scenery. Camp site - clean, tidy & organised. Staff - friendly & polite in all areas; reception, bar, pool, cleaners etc. Amenties all excellent, (hot clean showers), washing up facilities etc. Space - plenty of space around pods and parking next to it. Local areas - all beautiful, Lyme Regis, Bridport, Colmers Hill, Golden Cap, Charmouth. Food- Roast dinner looked & smelt amazing. ( we hadnt booked for it but wished we had 😜).

Disliked: Didnt know we had to pay to use the pool until we got there. Didnt see anything on the website unless its hidden. Then you could only use for 1 hour at a time. You could get of the pool and pay again if there was a slot. Biggest disappointment was the sauna. We chose this particular site because it had a sauna BUT you couldnt just have a sauna it is included in the pool slot. We didnt want a swim but we did want a sauna everyday. There are only 25 spaces per session for the indoor pool (this includes the sauna). From our observations, most people were in the pool, very few were in the sauna and on all the occassions we wanted to use the sauna but were not able to, it was empty! Very disappointing. Entire area very, very hilly with many very steep hills, including the campsite, but this cant be helped at least it keeps you fit! 😜

Powered grass caravan site

Liked: Great facilities, clean & organised and within reasonable walking distance of the beach. Lovely bonus to have the swimming pool on site. We have a wheelchair user in our family and found the site quite steep in places, however the main facilites had level or ramped access, and we were allocated a pitch lower on a level close to the main facilites.

Powered concrete slab caravan site

Liked: The quiet park and the bus stop outside the park.

Disliked: On arrival we had to wait 40 mins before being sited. Staff attitude was awful, we were clearly a nuisance! Mostly in reception but also in the shop and bar. No holiday buzz to the park. Pools are small and the outside one is absolutely freezing.

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
