  • Grass pitches at a north Devon campsite facing the Atlantic coast
  • Five minutes’ drive to Hartland Abbey, and 15 minutes to Clovelly
  • Information point and direct access to South West Coast Path
The folk who own Stoke Barton Farm Campsite know a thing or two about the area – they’ve farmed around this part of north Devon for generations and specifically at Stoke Barton for over 40 years. It’s also fair to say they know a thing or two about splendid family-friendly breaks – that’s what you get when you set down on these grass pitches facing the Atlantic coast. There are coastal views across the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to kickstart the holiday vibes. The information shed – which is kitted out with kettles, microwaves, a freezer and power points – is a handy source of useful knowledge as well as tending to your tummy, and only down the lane by the farmhouse. For all your food and drink needs you can go to the pubs at Hartland – five minutes’ drive or a half-hour walk. A local shop is also nearby and deliveries can be arranged. Since Stoke Barton Farm Campsite is on a working livestock and arable farm, you’ll see sheep grazing in fields neighbouring the pitches. There are 12 acres across the site in total, including plenty of space between pitches so you’ll never feel crowded. It’s wonderfully family friendly too, with facilities that include a football pitch where kids can let off steam, charging for devices (that’ll keep the teens quiet) and a launderette to keep everyone looking their best.

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked: We spent 3 peaceful nights here. So much space and freedom. Staff very friendly and helpful about the footpath routes. Beautiful location and fabulous walking out to Hartland Point, Speke’s Mill waterfall, Hartland Quay and the Wreckers Retreat bar. Finally got to hear the bells of the church that rises high above the countryside on Sunday morning before sadly we had to leave the next day. Cycle ride into Hartland is hilly but worth it. Good music at The Anchor Inn on Sunday afternoons We would love to return some day.

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked: Manager friendly and helpful. Clean facilities Ease of joining sw Coast path

Disliked: Power spots thinly spread out Facilities are a walk - especially shower If using tent box on top of car can be very exposed

From the manager: Oh dear, sorry you didn't enjoy it here. I seem to remember it was windy which it can be so close to the sea at times, even on a lovely day. The power points are spread out to give campers bigger pitches. The campsite is a rented property which is why the facilities are spread out as we have tried to make the best of what we have available to use. It would not be possible for us to invest such a large sum of money on someone else property. We are a rural farm campsite.

Spacious well maintained pitches in beautiful countryside.

Charlotte O. The reviewer booked through Pitchup.com

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: What a fantastic spot! The location is perfect, the facilities are immaculate and the views are outstanding. We stayed with two young children (4 and 2) and were joined by friends with their 1 year old and 4 year old. The site was safe and well kept, meaning that the children were able to play freely. The pitches were mostly flat - a slight slope but nothing dramatic! And the grass was kept short, with beautiful meadows in the garden. Everything was well signed and the welcome we received was excellent. We can't wait to come back!

Disliked: Nothing!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Ahhh...thank you for your lovely review Charlotte. Mind you it does make a big difference when the weather is good ! Hope to see you again sometime.

Local attractions

How to begin your break in north Devon? With a long jaunt across the South West Coast Path, which can be accessed directly from site? More clifftop walks around Hartland Quay (five minutes’ drive), followed by a tasty pub meal? Clovelly (15 minutes) is another splendid seaside scene with cobbled slopes and a row of small fishing boats. To investigate more of the coast, you might want to check out Bude (half an hour) and its many surfing beaches. There’s more surf at Welcombe Mouth (20 minutes), along with a waterfall to seek out. Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall (five minutes) is another waterfall closer by, and with a nearly 50-metre drop, it’s bound to be pretty impressive. What of some particularly peaceful places, then? St Nectan Church (five minutes’ walk), named the Cathedral of North Devon, is one. Hartland Abbey (five minutes’ drive) or The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden (20 minutes) are others. To get to wildlife-packed Lundy Island, visit Bideford Quay (half an hour). If it’s kid-friendly attractions and farm animals you’re after, The BIG Sheep (25 minutes) has all of that.
