General

  • Rural Devon pop-up site with lovely countryside and coastal views
  • A five-minute drive from Clovelly and the South West Coast Path
  • A short walk from Milky Way Adventure Park and North Devon Wake Park

Clovelly Fields Camping is a spacious and well-located site in the gorgeous Devon countryside, close to the border with Cornwall and the South West Coast Path. As the name suggests, the cute fishing village of Clovelly (famed for its cobbled streets and pretty harbour) is five minutes’ drive away.

It’s the sort of place where you could cheerfully sit back for many an hour to gaze out at the sheep grazing peacefully on the surrounding pastures or perhaps take a gentle walk through the fields to take in coastal views across to Saunton Sands. There’s a ‘hidden gem’ of a beach a couple of miles away at Buck’s Mills (don’t tell everyone, but it’s a fab spot for sea splashing and rockpooling at low tide).

You may well have more activity in mind though when staying here: the site sits in farmland just next to the Milky Way Adventure Park, so you’ll have easy access to days of fun at one of the UK’s top-rated amusement parks. (Guests at this site get special rates too, so you can book VIP pass holder tickets… and do make sure to book ahead, because it’s a popular place.)

And there’s more where that came from… just on the other side of the site is the North Devon Wake Park, which has wakeboarding for both novices and experts, an inflatable aqua park and a cool lakeside clubhouse for chilling out and watching the action with snacks and beers. For more watersports action, it’s a 25-minute drive to the surf beaches at Bude and Sandymouth Bay (or you can try out the sandy stretch 15 minutes away at Westward Ho!)

This is a pop-up site but it’s still got a good collection of facilities around its spacious pitches: guests have access to washing-up facilities, portaloos, showers and toilets with sinks. Food shops, a chippie and an award-winning pub are within five minutes’ drive; there’s a larger supermarket 15 minutes away in Bideford.

Really enjoyed my stay at Clovelly fields. Very clean strong comfy bell tent I hired for 6 nights. Weather was mixed but only one night strong rain / winds tent felt very stable still. Great to use the fire pit most nights provided , fairy lights outside we’re a great touch. Simple but basic clean facilities in static blocks. Clean cold water outside for washing up under cover. Friendly helpful staff. Felt welcome. Great Surrounding countryside views With amazing sunrises and sunsets. Close to Clovelly -2 miles to village. Farmers arms pub closet and cost cutter Shop 2 miles away In Woolsery. Walking distance around lanes.

Clovelly and the surrounding area was beautiful, we had a great time for the bank holiday weekend in Aug. Lovely walks along the coast and some great pubs close by. Kept up to date via text which was great, as there was a fair amount of rain expected. Facilities were okay but not great, just temporary blocks. We were told from some locals it's a new campsite so maybe they're planning on more permanent facilities in the future.

    Disliked:

The site is very exposed so this amplified how bad the wind was. We got pretty badly hit with the wind and had to go out and purchase some windbreakers to enjoy sitting outside the tent. My main issue was that we were immediately asked by the owner to make sure we were quiet, being targeted just because we were 4 men. It left a bit of a sour taste and she was a bit accusational at other times. A lot of other people there were much noisier than we were. The owner then came over and said she was surprised she didn't get any complaints about us, not sure what that meant...

The campsite was very boggy after being told that this was the best pitch on the Friday, we further found out that this was an awful place for the wind!! The toilets were portaloos and the showers were something you would see at a festival! The washing up facility had no hot water at all.

On the Saturday night we played music and was probably a little noisy however was never once told can you keep it down please. On the next day (the Sunday) we were approached by one lady being threatened to get our tent off using a digger and another man came and told us and another lady said you have a curfew for 10pm and I will be back to check you are asleep (clearly their communication was awful not to realise one person had already been to tell us) ANYWAY this evening we had a fire and sat talking quietly around it, someone came back at 10:30pm and told us you HAVE to go to bed (we are not children and this is how he treated us!!!). To be told to go to sleep at 10:30pm was absolutely ridiculous!!!

Nevertheless we got into our tents and went to bed. Unfortunately I did not have a nice sleep as the man who runs the site kept coming down in his car with his headlights on to check we were sleeping, which kept waking me up and I found a little creepy.

Lovely friendly owners, clean facilities and only a few minutes from the milky way which the kids loved. Even though we stayed when the weather was very wet and windy(the wind even snapped a tent pole) we still had a great time.
We text the owner late at night and they responded within minutes to help.
