Wavesurfer surfing simulator – unique to Golden Coast (added by manager 30 Nov 2014)
A bird's eye view of the leisure park, overlooking woolacombe sands
Have fun on the fast-paced arcade racing game
Enjoy some family time in the beach house café

  • Family-friendly north Devon holiday park with lots of activities
  • Under two miles from Woolacombe; Combe Martin 15 minutes
  • Surf machines, bungee trampoline, climbing wall, bowling and sauna
Join the thousands of sheep that flock to Woolacombe for the annual ovine hairdressing championships, with a trip to the green and pleasant gardens of the Golden Coast Holiday Village. Visitors have access to masses of activities on site, from the pumped up (cycling, tennis, water flumes, four indoor and outdoor swimming pools), to the more leisurely (bowling, fishing, pitch and putt, sauna and solarium). Although there’s no shortage of mod cons, the site retains an old-school charm, not least thanks to its Old Mill Inn, which has been keeping people fed and watered since the seventeenth century. In the evenings, guests can chill out and enjoy the valley views, grab a pint in the sports bar, or enjoy entertainment including game shows, family discos, tribute bands, comedians and illusionists. 'Messy mayhem' is promised at the various kids’ clubs for all age groups, and the little sprouts should have a fine time on the bungee trampoline and climbing wall; parents can confirm that their offspring actually do walk on water as they take to the inflatable human hamster balls in the pool, or show off their board skills on the Wavesurfer artificial surf machine. For a pit stop, try creating a family heirloom over a cuppa at the ceramic-painting café.

Disliked: Parking in a car park was not our idea of a touring camp site. We had booked for 4 nights but left site after two and moved over to Twitched Park for the remaining two nights.

Powered gravel caravan site

Liked: Only stayed for one night but used the pool on both Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning as we didn’t have to check out until noon and it was raining. Pub at the front of the site had a good live act on the Saturday and the food was pretty good. Great value for a couple of nights. Staff very friendly.

Disliked: All good for our stay - we stay on lots of different types of sites and this met expectations and more.

Liked: Shop was good and had everything you needed, all being expensive. Lots of activities to do for the children, but everything costs money apart from table tennis and cinema.

Disliked: Tents were pitched too close to the motor home pitches. Although says free WiFi, you dont get this at all. Toliets and showers were dirty, and noticed that on the cleaning rota, there was two days that it hadn't been checked and cleaned. Only one block of toliets and showers for the whole site The outdoor swimming pool system was not good, you have to be at reception for 8.30am to get only a 45 min slot. Indoor pool, massive queue one in one out so swimming is near enough impossible. All activities like high ropes and wave machine were very expensive, and all booked up Security was poor as ours and other people's property was vandalised. When contacting reception about this they just said to email verdant! Pitches were small and all gravel Lots of noise from work they are doing on site early in the morning Really loud boy racer car going really fast down the site - possible someone who works there as it was around 11pm every night we stayed. Fresh water for motor home was not easily accessible The whole site is run down.

Liked: Lots to do, you need to book activities in advance or you won’t get to enjoy them, Great entertainment, shame about the touring pitches I love to come back ones they have sorted them out

Disliked: Grave pitches are awful not level one bit so when it rains you just have massive puddles in your awning our feet was soaked, putting the awning up was so hard as the ground was like concrete we broke couple pegs (the metal ones) some we couldn’t even get out the ground, our wind breaker got Brocken trying to put it the ground and our hammer broke as well when it rained it stunk like waste and our dog couldn’t even walk on the gravel he come home limping! it look like a builders yard! The camp site needs some TLC asap! Toilets and showers need upgrading and regular cleaning now come home have to buy new pegs, harmer and wind breaker. take the dogs to the vets to check out his paws cost us a lot of money!!!

Local attractions

Venture out and you’ll find loads to see and do in this part of North Devon. Clamber down the steep cobbledy streets to the fishing boats at the fourteenth-century quay in Clovelly (50 minutes' drive), or pay a visit to Barnstaple Pannier Market (25 minutes) to browse the local foodstuffs, arts and crafts, and antiques. Watermouth Castle (15 minutes) has dungeon labyrinths and a gnome land (anyone who thinks this sounds like the stuff of nightmares will be pacified by the dreamy views…). Nature lovers might enjoy an outing to the wilderness of Exmoor National Park to spot wild deer and ponies, choosing spots like the ruggedly gorgeous Valley of the Rocks (35 minutes) for wild goats and fossil hunting. For other days out, the kids can come face-to-leg with scarily lifelike dinosaurs and go swimming with sea lions at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (15 minutes), or just get spaced out by the rides at The Milky Way Adventure Park (45 minutes).
