The Wood Life offers all the charm of camping but with the comforts of home set in stunning scenery and total privacy. We have two distinctly different glamping units at separate locations either side of the little Devon village of Kenn. Both units are ideal for romantic breaks away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Woodman's Wagon is an unusual, hand-crafted tree house with views through the tree tops and out to sea. It has been loving built by woodsman, Matt Bate, and is set in its own 8 acre woodland. Imagine the freedom of a wild and wonderful woodland experience. Orchard Wagon comprises a cosy Shepherd's Hut and amazing hand-crafted Bathing Wagon featuring 'a bath with a view'. Set in total privacy at the end of a little country lane in an old orchard with beautiful views of rolling hills and woodland. The Wood Life is neatly located in the middle of Devon, just outside Exeter. The quaint little village of Kenn has a beautiful thatched pub, the oldest Yew tree in the country and a little river which runs out into the river Exe Estuary, a haven for wildlife and an internationally important Conservation Area. Kenn is under 5 miles from the historic Cathedral City of Exeter, tucked under the impressive Haldon Forest Park (full of walking and cycling trails), and only five miles from the beach at Dawlish Warren National Nature Reserve in one direction and Dartmoor National Park in the other. Imagine having a beautiful broadleaved woodland or an old orchard all to yourself with total privacy away from the hassles of everyday life. Think of the freedom - watching wildlife, lighting a fire and just getting back to basics - it's quite simply magic! There's no light pollution - just star gazing and spending quality time with your loved one. Woodman's Wagon is a truly unique treehouse set all on its own in an 8 acre woodland full of wildlife. The tree house is accessed via a small bridge and there are double doors opening out onto a large sun deck area with Indian fire bowl (and BBQ) with views out through the tree tops and right out to sea at Exmouth. The hand-crafted interior features a unique king size bed, galley kitchen with gas rings, wood burner and comfy sofa. Hot water for the bath is heated by a wood burner or there's an outside shower on the deck. There are views through the treetops from both the bed and the bath. Woodman's Wagon is off-grid, so there's a gas-powered fridge and solar powered lighting. We try and be as sustainable as possible, so most of the treehouse is built from recycled or materials, it's base is an old wagon chassis and most of the timber is chestnut coppice grown only 200 meters away. Woodman's Wagon aims to welcome disabled visitors so please do enquire if you have special needs. The quirky accommodation at Orchard Wagon features a spacious Shepherd's Hut with a hand-made double bed, there's also a field kitchen and campfire, with all cooking equipment provided. Cooking can be done on gas hobs, over an open fire on a BBQ grill or even using an old fashioned Dutch oven hanging from a tripod. The wonderful bath with a view is set in its own hand-built wagon, featuring an eco bathroom with hot water provided by a wood burning stove and a compost loo. There is mains lighting and plug sockets in the bedroom and a fridge. Both units are a perfect retreat for couples to take a break from modern life and get back to 'the good old days'. Fresh herbs are growing in pots, cooking oil, salt pepper, tea and coffee are all provided free of charge. No pets at Woodman's Wagon and only at Orchard Wagon by special prior arrangement.
