  • Valley site among mature trees and landscaped ponds
  • A mile from Haldon Forest Park
  • Playground and modern toilet and shower blocks
Pitching up in the River Kenn valley, on a park surrounded by Devon woodland and countryside, with mature trees and landscaped ponds complete with resident ducks… does this sound like it might fit the bill? If so, take your flock to Haldon Forest Holiday Park, five miles from Exeter and just a mile from the woodland and bike trails of the 3500-acre Haldon Forest Park. Haldon Forest has a playground on the park for kids to go out on a limb under the watchful eye of more mature types. The site also has up to date laundry facilities, plus three modern toilet and shower blocks with heating and free hot water. All in all, you’ll surely find this park all that it’s quacked up to be…

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The site was well set up and we had plenty of room on both of our pitches and no immediate neighbours, the park facilities were great for the grandchildren . Toilet and shower facilities were clean and pleasant. The camp was quite quiet despite there being quite a lot of families, which made for lovely weekend of relaxing .

Disliked: A shop or something would have been nice , just for simple things like ice cream or snacks/ sweets for the kids , but that's just personal choice.

Liked: Our kids love this campsite, lovely large play ground and football pitch on top field.
The pitches are good size, not boxed in like over campsites
The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Good facilities
Like that campfires are allowed

Disliked: Sadly on this stay, travellers arrived on the campsite. Traveller kids were violent and we had to keep our kids away from the playground. Such a shame.

I hope pitch up look into this

Will check reviews before we book again.

Liked: Big pitches, lots of open space. Family run. Play park.
Shower block and toilets, relatively clean.

Disliked: On site shop closed down.
The little hut with food, bar and light evening entertainment now gone.
Gypsies turning up. Their work vehicles getting ready for work early every morning.
People doing clothes washing in the washing up sinks and leaving their stuff in and by the sinks.

Liked: Large spacious pitches with the option to be away in your own little ares

Disliked: No investment in the site, not clear how to get onto site. Also very poor first impressions with what looks like a junk yard/ building site. Noise constant from kennels. It was a nice site for a few days but probably won't return as rundown and no care, reception was a gazebo

Liked: Well maintained site with largely flat pitches.
Modern, clean toilet/shower blocks with unlimited warm water.
Friendly staff.

Disliked: Could hear nearby dog kennels at certain times of day. We were in the top field, so not particularly intrusive.
Some of the on-site facilities were closed as we were there in September, but this is understandable as the site was very quiet at this time.

Local attractions

Bring the bikes to Devon or hire wheels at Haldon Forest Park to take full advantage of the miles of woodland mountain bike and cycle trails for various levels of ability. Discovery trails, play equipment and several walking trails are also in the forest park including the circular Butterfly Trail and the easy-rated Mamhead Sensory Trail with gorgeous views along the Jurassic Coast and over the Exe estuary. A ten mile horse riding trail is also around for more relaxed forest sightseeing, with horse riding of a different type at the forest’s Exeter Racecourse. Dartmoor National Park, with more hacking, hiking and biking as well as tor climbing, guided walks and geocaching, is a short drive from the holiday park. It has regular events throughout the year, towns and villages to take in, the famous Dartmoor ponies to spot and Dartmoor Zoo with meerkats, monkeys, lions and more. Bring binoculars along with the bikes: the forest park and surrounding area are wildlife havens, with rare birds of prey and wild deer in the forest itself and birdwatching a few miles away at the Site of Special Scientific Interest the Exe Estuary: watch oystercatchers showing excellent culinary taste in breaking open mussels at Bull Hill or take a trip to the nature reserve at Dawlish Warren at the estuary’s mouth. If you’re bringing along the bikes, the National Cycle Network Exe Estuary Trail runs to Exmouth from Dawlish. The sublime sand of Dawlish Warren is one of several South Devon sandy stretches, with the beaches at Teignmouth, Exmouth and Torbay within easy distance of Haldon Forest and the coastal towns of Torquay and Paignton a little further along the coast. Exmouth is the place to don the wetsuit as it’s known for watery sports of all types including diving, windsurfing and sailing; it’s also a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Finally, a stay at Haldon Forest has to include a day or two in Exeter to see its twelfth century cathedral, medieval Guildhall and famous historic quayside with antique shops, restaurants, canoe and boat trips and events such as dragon boat racing and guided tours.
