  • Family-friendly pop-up Cornwall site surrounded by peaceful farmland
  • A 20-minute drive to Bude and Boscastle; half an hour to Tintagel
  • Overlooking an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; beaches nearby
Wylde Valley Camping is certainly a fine spot for fans of woodlands, beaches and moors, all of which are abundant in this scenic part of Cornwall. Surrounded by peaceful farmland and overlooking the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this 14-acre site is well placed for discovering both the north and south coasts of England's most south-westerly county and, although it's in a quiet rural setting, it’s still within 20 minutes' drive of the seaside town of Bude. This is the kind of place for simple pleasures like spectacular sunsets and starry night skies. The grassy grounds are very well set up to host travellers, with plenty of room to park by your pitch plus well-kept basic amenities like toilets, showers and drinking water taps. For a little extra warmth after dark, you can also hire a firepit from the site team for cosy evenings with family and friends. Week St Mary is just over two miles away if you fancy a trip to the nearest pub, while the closest beach at Crackington Haven is just over 10 minutes' drive. For walks, there's certainly no shortage of clifftops, coves and moors within easy reach around the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (five minutes), and day trips to Dartmoor National Park (40 minutes) are on the cards too if you fancy a change of scenery.

Local attractions

A game of hide and seek is quite the challenge among the motte and bailey ruins of Okehampton Castle (40 minutes' drive). And there's no shortage of old fortresses in this area, with Tintagel Castle (30 minutes) being possibly the grandest of the lot. Tiptoe across its precarious-looking (but actually properly solid) footbridge and be prepared to be set under the spell of Merlin’s sea cave below. Thatched rooves and a rocky harbour make Boscastle (20 minutes) an attractive option for a laidback afternoon by the sea. Alternatively, set off to Bude (20 minutes), where you can channel your creativity with ceramics and stained glass workshops, take a swim in the sea pool or get to grips with wave-riding at a surf school. Walking boots at the ready, because Dartmoor National Park (40 minutes) and Bodmin Moor (20 minutes) both have tracks through Cornish moorlands. If your map skills are not up to scratch, you can follow the track of an old railway on the nearby Camel Trail (20 minutes) instead.

Liked: Very picturesque.
Toilets and showers clean and aesthetically pleasing/considered with plugs and USB ports too.
Site was quiet and it was easy to communicate with the site manager.
Ample amounts of wood for the fire pit.

Disliked: Women’s showers were warm/only just hot (not bad but would have even nicer to have been a touch warmer.
The grass was long and was cut only after we had pitched up. It got quite wet.
Due to it being an open field, the wind battered us quite a bit!

Liked: Beautiful campsite, practically empty when we went (Aug 2023). Shower block best I've ever been to, hot showers whenever I went, monsoon head setting...
Toilets clean and restocked.
Fire pits available.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Closest shop/pub a 5 min drive.

Disliked: I would have preferred it to have a playground but we were so close to lots of beautiful sights and beaches that it didn't seem too bad. (Plus it was raining for most of our trip!)
