  • Eco-friendly Cornish campsite on a 32-acre working farm
  • Two miles from a sandy, rocky cove and the South West Coast Path
  • In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty between Bude and Tintagel
Trelay Campsite is a small-scale rural site set on the grounds of a 32-acre working farm in St Gennys, Cornwall. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it's roughly two miles from the spectacular coastal scenery of Crackington Haven. The local area leaves guests quite spoilt for beach days, with everything from gold sand and stunning folded rock formations to excellent surfing (including local equipment hire or surf lessons) and rockpools to clamber over. Bude is around a 15-minute drive away, with its wide range of beaches, shops and restaurants; there's also a bus stop with a Bude connection around half a mile away from the site. Southwards, it's around 20 minutes' drive to Boscastle, a pretty harbour village, and 25 minutes to Tintagel Castle, once home to the legendary King Arthur. At St Nectan's Waterfall, stroll through the lush forest to a waterfall and tearoom. Nearby are the equally-as-mysterious labyrinth rock carvings at Rocky Valley dating from the early Bronze Age, or keep walking to the coastal path for sea views and another (smaller) waterfall. Pluses of staying at Trelay Campsite include this spot’s well-kept amenities like toilets, showers and a shared food prep space, plus a fridge and freezer. There are also charging points for phones, tablets, shavers and other small devices. The site is in the process of rewilding the site, so the pitches are extra spacious with areas of wild grass and wildflowers between each pitch to support the wildlife. A firepit is provided on each pitch. Dogs are allowed at this friendly farm site, but you'll need to keep them on leads at all times to avoid worrying the livestock. If you need to stock up on food, there's a post office and basic food shop about three-quarters of a mile down the road. The closest pub is by the A39, under a mile from the farm gates. On site, there is a gallery and craft shop which sells items from local artists and creators.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Lovely campsite, really relaxed atmosphere. We've had a great stay and the kids have loved every minute. The kitchen facilities (kettle/microwave/fridge) are a lovely touch and make life that bit easier. Toilets were always spotless and the owners were always around if there had been any issues. Location is fab for exploring the beautiful beaches nearby. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a back to nature, back to basics escape.

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: The campsite was a small set up and we were part of a field viewing row of 3 pitches. Although it was very windy and exposed the tent stayed strong throughout. 2 friendly and approachable staff members came for a chat and to check everything was well. Big bonus for us was that campfires were allowed and firepits provided for us. Facilities included freezer for freezer blocks, warm solar showers and a kettle and microwave (these came in as handy time savers as boiling water on our single gas camping stove can be time consuming!). Overall a great site.

From the manager: Thanks Anne for the lovely review - so glad you enjoyed your stay and the tent stayed strong in the gusts! Our main area is much more sheltered but as you probably noticed, we were fully booked. Best of luck to your husband and friend with completing the coastal path - what a feat! We hope to see you again.

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: I stayed one night at Trelay and was very pleased with this stop . The pitch was clearly set out amidst a rewilded field with picnic tables and play area for children , and the day room with kettle and fridges help without electric hookup. The showers and washroom were great , clean and plenty of them, and nice to to know it is solar! I was with other campers and residents who were friendly and I liked the feel and location very near great beach Crackington Haven with its pub where I swam and had a meal. There was good info and signs for independent finding ones way. I stayed only one night as I was headed further on into Cornwall but would have been happy to stay on! It had really nice feel!

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Lovely quiet site with lots of character. Each pitch is a mowed out area which creates a lovely boundary. Only 10 pitches, so never too busy even when full. There was a lovely picnic/eating area, and a small play area that our children (6 & 8) loved! A good kitchen area for washing up and making a cup of tea — and a washroom with 2x clean toilets and 2x solar showers. The site is well located near some lovely beaches and towns, and close to a good corner shop too full of lovely local produce. It was great that the owners let you bring the car to the pitch to unload/load - but that it is a car free site. Lovely to have a fire pit to use. And really kind and welcoming hosts, who lent us a screwdriver and a mug when we needed it. We stayed for 2 weeks.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike here — a wholesome quiet campsite. The solar showers took a while to figure out, but ultimately produced lovely hot showers :)

Liked: This campsite is a real gem! good sized level camping pitches, spotlessly clean well kept showers and toilet facilities and a wonderful indoor area for washing up or playing one of the many board games. The staff are friendly and very happy to help. Perfectly positioned within easy reach of Bude, Boscastle, Tintagel and many more beautiful places.

Liked: Nice facilities and a friendly site.

Disliked: Not enough hot water for showers in the morning when the site was full.

From the manager: Hi Penny, thank you for taking the time to leave a review, i'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Our hot water system does take a little time to re-heat once drained so if there is high demand it does occasionally run out and require a little extra time. Sometimes campers naturally spread out their shower times which helps - I checked with several other campers and they hadn't experienced any problems. We are looking into an on-demand hot water system to avoid this issue in future. I'm glad it hasn't put you off visiting again! We hope to see you next year.

From the manager: Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm sorry you had trouble with noise and wifi, we weren't made aware of this during your stay, or we may have been able to address these issues. Our phone numbers are on the board and we will always do our best to resolve any issues as soon as we can. I'm surprised you found the site noisy - if there was something specific it would be useful to know so we can address it. I hope you enjoyed your break.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Spacious camping pitches, clean tidy kitchen area, liked that the campsite has a fridge, microwave and toaster, that made a nice space with benches. Likes that cars have to leave outside the campsite. Close to the nice beaches and Bude. Would definitely recommend!

Disliked: There was not enough hot water to take a shower, in the mornings there was a queue at the shower to be able to take a shower with hot water. For two evenings, there was no place to park a car in the car parking area. At the evening after 11 pm people at the 8,9 pitches listened to music loudly both in the morning and in the evening. Didn't like that there is no door between toilets area and the kitchen. We noticed that people felt ashamed to go to toilets if we were in the kitchen area.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, i'm glad you enjoyed your stay on the whole. I'm sorry to hear you had trouble with parking, hot water and noise. I do try to visit all the campers at least once a day to check everything is ok. I spoke to your boys a couple of times but didn't manage to catch you, and they didn't mention there had been any problems. If you do visit again, feel free to call or text on the numbers provided to mention if you have any issues and we will do our best to resolve them. I certainly wasn't aware there had been late night noise or I would have addressed it. I trust you found a space in the closer car park, but in response to your review I have arranged for more space to be available in the campers car park. Our hot water does occasionally run out when there is high demand and takes a short while to re-heat. We are looking into changing the system for next season.

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Beautiful site, loved the spacious pitches and wild areas in between as face a private feel. Hot showers (and powerful) and fab to have the camp kitchen for when it rained. Really nice and quiet campsite, but lots of lovely people camping so lots of nice chats and swapped recommendations of the local area which is stunning and local beach is only 5 mins away by car. First time we stayed but will definitely be back for longer next time. Thanks so much for a great stay.
