  • Peaceful dog-friendly yurts within 40-acre farm grounds
  • Half an hour’s drive to Bodmin Moor, the south coast and Dartmoor
  • Swim from the site's riverfront; firepit provided; games room on site
A spacious, off-grid yurt getaway in the Tamar Valley – that’s the headline at Lower Marsh Farm on the Cornwall-Devon border. However, it’s just a taste of what’s on offer at this peaceful 40-acre property, which has a salt marsh nature reserve, woodland, orchard and a tennis court (with rackets and balls available) to its name. The site’s riverfront also has a private, tidal shingle beach where guests can go wild swimming when the tide’s right or watch for birds. Accommodation here is in fully insulated waterproof yurts that are well spaced around two gently sloping meadows that are popular with local wildlife – keep your eyes peeled for birds, deer and badgers while you sit out by your firepit. Inside, furnishings include a kingsize bed or two singles, a logburner and atmospheric solar-powered lighting. A short walk away, there’s a modern shared bathroom and a field kitchen with sheltered cooking facilities. For a bit of downtime, stop by the games room, which has table tennis, board games, jigsaws and books and magazines. There are power sockets in the games room too for charging your gadgets, and solar-powered batteries in the yurts. The site also provides a bag of logs and kindling (sustainably cut from the farm), with more available to purchase. Dogs are provided with a hamper including a towel and blanket (dog bed upon request). Foodwise, there’s a small honesty shop that usually sells eggs, apple juice and veg and other local products, and pubs and restaurants are a short drive away. That should give you some fuel for walks near the site or around Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor National Park or the South West Coast Path (all half an hour’s drive away). The site runs bookable experiences, including private wild food foraging workshops, paddleboarding tuition, afternoon tea and suppers.

Yurt

Liked: Yurt was lovely and clean . Lovely homely touches and beautiful location. Peaceful and lots to do and see on-site . With all the farmyard animas and peacocks around . The kitchen area is a great idea with fridge , microwave and hob . Made camping a little easier for sure . Loved exploring the site , kept finding new things like the orchard , hammock and woodland walk .

Disliked: Bit if a trek to the toilets from our yurt and the road in is very narrow and twisty to get in .
