  • Peaceful Cornish site in an accessible location just off the A30
  • Five minutes' drive to Redruth town centre or 10 minutes to Portreath
  • Far-reaching views over the local area; dogs welcome
Feel at ease on every pitch at Sunset Camping, a quiet and very welcoming family-friendly campsite in central Cornwall. Located a short distance from the A30 near Redruth, this west-facing spot is well positioned to soak up all-day sunshine and has some truly lovely views over the surrounding area. Here you can watch the sun setting over the sea, take an evening stroll along the coast at Portreath's dog-friendly beach (10 minutes' drive), or relax with your pet (if you've brought one) over an end-of-day barbecue or campfire back at base. As for your days, you won't be short of options to fill them here: this centrally located site is within an hour's drive of most of the Cornish mainland, with top highlights like the Lizard Peninsula, Falmouth, Newquay, St Ives and Padstow all easy to reach. Sunset Camping is in a particularly prime location for walkers and cyclists, close as it is to the protected coastal areas around Godrevy and St Agnes (both 10 minutes), the Coast To Coast Trail and the Great Flat Lode Trail (10 minutes), steeped in attractive country views and Cornish mining history. Redruth (five minutes) is conveniently close to hand too, with pubs, cafés, supermarkets, a cinema and a railway station where you can set off on car-free day trips. Even closer to home are a dog-friendly pub, a discount supermarket and a play park (at North Country) – all of these are within a handy 10-minute stroll.

What customers say

A ripper little campsite, kept in great nick, with boss hosts. Sites are mostly roomy, private and flat. Facilities are clean and basic but have hot showers and plenty of hot water. Handy spot for exploring. Most loved the quiet, though some heard the A30. Great value and a top stay.

#1 powered grass site (large)

Liked A lot of space, easy to check in and close to what we wanted to visit. Friendly staff and calm site. Good facilities

Disliked It'd be good for the toilets to be closer to the tents. Also longer hours for the swimming pool. 10am is too late

#7 powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site (small)

Liked We loved the small and intimate nature of this site. No sprawling tents and vans over masses of fields. 7 very large pitches all separated by hedges. We recommend pitch 7 which is in the corner and very private.
Lashings of hot water in the free showers.
This was our 2nd visit and we will be back!

#6 powered concrete and grass site (large)

Liked Nice place, easy to get to off the A30. Pitch is allocated when you book, no hassle when arriving. Quiet location, 2x toilets and 2 portable showers on site.
Large pitch, hook up and fairly private.

#1 powered grass site (large)

Liked Campsite was kept very well maintained and good size pitches.
Toilets and showers were kept very clean
Lovely little washing up area.
Close to a couple of supermarkets for supplies and park to take dog for a walk. Convient to visit different parks of Cornwall.
Hosts very friendly and great value for money.

Disliked Close to houses and main road which we were aware so it didn’t worry us.

#6 powered concrete and grass site (large)

Liked Nothing

Disliked Very disappointed at the facilities provide only 2 porta loos and 2 porta showers, the latter without light. Just a shed with a very uneven floor that had a sink for washing up. Paid extra for dog and there was nowhere to walk them on site or dog bins. No reception, just a mobile number to contact. I paid just £1.25 more at my next site that had wonderful facilities for dogs and people. Brilliant reception provide superb map of area, some food delivery services, great individual showers with light and toilet, laundry facilities and much more. From very basic to luxury site and little difference in price.

Local attractions

Delve into the local geology at Cornwall Gold and Tolgus Mill, a fab heritage centre five minutes' drive from base. From there, you might like to set off to Porthtowan beach (10 minutes), a dog-friendly seaside spot with spectacular scenery, or you could learn more about flora and fauna from around the world at Feadon Wildlife Education Centre (10 minutes). Grownup activities in the local area include the greens at Tehidy Golf Course (10 minutes) and Healey's Cornish Cyder Farm (10 minutes), where you can sample some of the West Country's top apple-based tipples. There are also wineries to explore around the Camel Trail (35 minutes), an off-road cycle route that takes in a gorgeous stretch of Cornish countryside. Got kids to keep entertained? You might appreciate being so close to Paradise Park and JungleBarn Cornwall (15 minutes), a local activity centre that's pretty sure to keep them busy. The steam trains at Lappa Valley (25 minutes) and the cute animals at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (30 minutes) are also pretty safe bets.
