St. Loy Camping: Grass pitches

General

  • Small, simple site on the Cornish coast between Lamorna and Treen
  • A 10-minute drive to Porthcurno beach; 15 minutes to Land's End
  • Next to a path to St. Loy Cove and the South West Coast Path

Traditional no-frills camping near the Cornwall coast? St. Loy Camping is a good choice for it – this small family-run site between Lamorna and Treen is in a splendid spot for getting out to lots of choice spots around Cornwall’s western stretches.

Your closest stretch of the coast here is St. Loy Cove, about a mile away. You can walk down here through the woods and then pick up the South West Coast Path to hike… well, as far as you like really. Perhaps you’d like to head east to lovely Lamorna Cove or venture west to the likes of Pedn Vounder, Porthgwarra and the incredible setting of the Minack Theatre.

All of the above and more popular spots are within easy reach if you decide to drive or cycle directly there too: as a guide it’ll take roughly 10 minutes to drive to Porthcurno or the Minack. Extend your driving time to 15 minutes and you can also take in Sennen Cove, Mousehole and Land’s End.

With all this on offer nearby, you won’t need lots of entertainment on site – and with that in mind, the owners here have chosen to keep things simple on the facilities front. All the essentials are covered though, with toilets and showers, an outdoor washing-up sink and drinking water taps provided, along with picnic benches close to the footpath down to the sea.

Life is pretty laidback here, with kids, dogs, barbecues and campfires all permitted as long as you’re sensible with them.

    Erm, the view I guess.

    Disliked:

The owner, the “showers” the toilet facilities generally everything about the place bar the fact you can see the sea.
Says it’s dog friendly but then the owner came to our van at 7:30am to tell us our dog was doing a poop on the grass. She was on a lead and happily doing her business when he came flying up the field and scared her, he then continued to tell us she was doing a poop on the grass. Not sure where else you expected her to go ?? Considering we’re in the middle of a field that you’re trying to make a profit from.
It’s a low budget site with a douche for an owner and in truth it looks like a some mad scientist has thrown together the shower/toilet/lighting in the facilities. All solar panels that do not work or run anything.
All in all not great if I could give it a 0 but gets a 1 because the view was ok.

Liked that they provide toilet paper, soap, hand towels - a bug bear of mine when they don't!

    Disliked:

The plumbing seemed to struggle with the number of visitors - possibly busier than usual due to the Bank Holiday.

Surrounding areas are beautiful, the reason for booking this area but with lots of competition around from other pop up camp sites this one may not be so popular.. smelly dirty dark toilets ( and I expected basic facilities as this is what i booked ) filthy shower tray .. signs to say have a quick shower or wait 15 mins for water to heat again … one shower for 40 pitches per gender .. I was happy with a field and a hot shower but neither was as I expected..

    Disliked:

    Toilets .. disgusting smell
    Field slopes
Camping neighbours really close to you
Look around before you book .. lots of other nicer flat fields..
