General

  • Relaxed, friendly and dog-friendly site five miles from Land's End
  • Views towards the Isles of Scilly; 15 minutes' drive from Sennen Cove
  • Hot showers, shop, play area and launderette

If ‘Cornish retreat’ were in the dictionary, it might well be beside a pic of Roselands Caravan and Camping Park. This little gem of a site is hidden away among hundreds of acres of west Cornish countryside five miles from Land’s End and six from Penzance, and keeps visitor numbers carefully managed to make sure it never gets overcrowded.

Roselands shies away from noisy entertainment, but still has stuff to do on site for all ages – a TV room, games room and an outdoor play area should see you sorted for low-key leisure time.

It’s a short drive to the best of Cornwall’s activities and attractions: the clifftop Minack theatre, sunbathing at Sennen Cove, climbing, cycling, golfing, surfing, horse riding, birdwatching… and walkies. Lots and lots of walkies: Roselands is near the South West Coast Path and is firmly dog friendly (pooch Archie lives on site too).

You’ll find yourself gently warmed up in spring and autumn at Roselands too, as its west Cornish climate and Gulf Stream influence mean early springs and late summers, often with the sun shining well into October. Guests come here in spring and autumn to take advantage of low season prices: wildflowers carpet the surrounding countryside in spring, while autumn is when birdwatchers flock to the nearby Isles of Scilly which sees some of the rarest birds in Europe make a pitstop.

The owners/wardens live on site and ensure that standards are kept immaculate, with accommodation areas set among scenic shrubs and flowers. Amenities are bang up to date too, with free hot showers, a shop and a laundry room with washing machines, tumble dryers and ironing facilities.

Location is great, hosts are welcoming, toilets and showers are clean, ground for pitch is flat. There are laundry facilities on the spot, which is great.

    Disliked:

pitch spot is not too big, and you can't do open fires (which is fair, there are marshes nearby). Grass leayer is pretty thin, so sticking the pegs for guylines is a challenge.
There were children, so it was a bit too loud in the morning.

Really nice site, it was really quiet when we stayed for a few days in September. The place has all the facilities we needed and the owners were friendly and helpful. The site is in a quiet location but a short drive from a few of the popular tourist locations around the area, we brought our dog with us and it was so nice to have the moors right behind the campsite to let him run around on every morning before going out.

Great vibe about this campsite - the owners have taken a lot of time to think about how to make the site as sustainable as possible with composting toilets. Great hot showers and activities for children - tyre swing and secluded play/picnic area. Beautiful surroundings with lots of options for walking and cycling - highly recommended.

Nice site, friendly owners. Easy walking distance to St Just. Owners had a lot to do on their own.

    Disliked:

When booked, it said "bar & well-stocked shop on site". Bar had been closed, as non-viable, and nothing much in the small shop in reception. Noisy site!!! Conservatory a bit of a no-go area, as constantly occupied by extended foreign families, who more often than not were in chalets that had their own tv's. Not enough showers for the size of site, and nigh impossible to use the washing machine and drier, as in constant use laundering chalet bedding etc. Never saw the chickens!!!

Location, Easily accessible to all places to visit. Lovely owners very welcoming. Site clean and tidy, can tell when it’s busy though! Only two toilets and showers for each gender but never had to queue to use them. Push button showers. Easily accessible Wi-fi. Play area for children to access. Games to access( just a shame not all guests keep the tidy )

Pool table and football table to access with a small charge.

Small shop to access any items you need.

    Chickens roam free, very friendly!

    Disliked:

Campsite is Small and all tents are very close together. (Personal preference) No place to use hairdryer and straighteners. ( Did use electric in tent) not a big problem!

Local attractions

History, clifftop walks, spectacular scenery and some of the best surfing in the country are all accessible within five or 10 minutes’ drive.

From the park you can see the Isles of Scilly, the collection of around 140 islands off Cornwall’s south-western coast. Five are still inhabited; one, Tresco (population 180), has the subtropical Tresco Abbey Gardens that are well worth a look.

Also within a few miles of Roselands are the Bronze Age settlement Cape Cornwall, the county’s secondmost westerly point (after Land’s End); the popular family-friendly sands of Sennen Cove, and the Atlantic swells off Whitesands Bay, said to be one of the best surfing beaches in the country.

Finally, take a full day at Land’s End to scramble about, snap some shots, picnic and pose for one of those pics at the famous signpost. The visitor centre has a list of walks to tackle around this smashing part of the Cornish coast.
