  • Spacious nine-acre site on a working Cornish dairy farm
  • Two miles from Saint Just; Cape Cornwall 10 minutes' drive
  • Wildlife haven in a field bordered by woodland
Build yourself a den at Badgers Field and you'll likely find yourself in good company – foxes, stoats, rabbits and red deer have all been spotted in these peaceful farm fields. Located in the far west of Cornwall off a quiet country road, these pitches are located in an area known as 'Badger's Field' – and, appropriately enough, the woodlands a short walk away are home to lots of badger setts, as well as dozens of other wild animals and birds. This wildlife haven is two miles from Saint Just, the nearest large village, where you can pick up baked goods from the café or bakery or visit the supermarket and stock up on food to cook back at base. The spectacular Cornish coastline is similarly close, with scenic spots like Cape Cornwall and Porth Ledden a 10-minute drive away. After days of gazing out over the Celtic Sea you might like to head inland and wander off to Carn Euny (20 minutes' walk), where the ruins of an ancient village are well worth visiting. You're also a mile from the panoramas of Sancreed Beacon and 2.5 miles from Drift Reservoir, where keen anglers will find fly fishing opportunities. This site has portable toilets for guests; barbecues are allowed if they're clear of the grass.

Local attractions

Keep it local and low-key with a walk to see the ancient ruins of Carn Euny (20 minutes' drive), an ancient village with an interesting underground passage known as a fogou where people lived between the Iron Age and Roman times. Next, hop in the car and head to the Drift Reservoir (five minutes) for fly fishing and walks by the water's edge, or head to Cape Cornwall (10 minutes) or Sennen Cove (15 minutes) for a dose of briny sea air. Without straying too much further afield, you might also like to explore the Levant Mine and Beam Engine (15 minutes), a shining example of Cornwall's industrial heritage, or head 20 minutes down the road to the tourist attractions and far-reaching Atlantic views on offer at Land's End (you've already come too far to skip the obligatory photo by its signpost). If sport is on the agenda, perhaps a bit of expert instruction at St Ives Surf School (30 minutes) will turn you into a wave-catching pro… and if not, there's more to do on dry land at the iconic Poldark Mine (40 minutes) or in the giant geodesic domes at the Eden Project (an hour and 20 minutes).

Badger Field unpowered grass and earth tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Badger’s Field was chosen for its simplicity and remoteness and it fulfilled our expectations wonderfully. We mostly languished in silence apart from the workings of the nearest farm and the local wildlife. The location was perfect for our explorations of my beloved West Penwith, and we enjoyed a number of spectacular sunsets. We particularly liked the hands off approach of the owners, and had the weather been a tiny bit better it would have been faultless. Didn’t see any badgers………
