  • Family-run park halfway between Padstow and Newquay
  • Half a mile from the South West Coast Path and Porthcothan Bay beach
  • Animals, pony rides, playground, bar and pop-up food nights on site
Macdonald's Farm Touring and Camping is a small family-run park among Cornish countryside and hills, well placed for exploring this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: it’s set back from the county's rugged coastline, half a mile from spectacular Porthcothan Bay on the north Cornish coast between Padstow and Newquay, and is award-winning too. This is the place for you if you fancy sleeping under the Cornish stars, eating top-notch local food in the farm garden (open at specific times for breakfast, lunch and dinner during high season, but closed on Mondays), riding ponies and meeting friendly animals (alpacas and rabbits live on site) – perhaps followed by a drink or two from the site's Sundowner Bar (also shut on Mondays). Your booking entitles you to exclusive access to the garden, animals, playground and activities, plus the bar and pop-up food nights. Spacious pitches are set among four small bays on grass at the top of a valley, on a gentle slope, and have excellent far-reaching views. Site amenities include free showers and toilets, disabled facilities, washing-up facilities, a laundry room and baby changing.

Liked The location of the site is great, out of the way enough to avoid crowds. The 56 bus will get you to both Newquay (including the airport) and Padstow and can be caught from the driveway! So makes the campsite great to get to other places. I would recommend sitting on the top deck so you can see all the views.
I loved the facilities. There was an amazing bar area with food on Tuesday-Saturday we had pizzas and BBQ and both were amazing! On Friday nights they have live music too, we had a great time!
The shower and toilet black were clean very good! Shower temps and pressure was great and there was soap provided in the bathrooms. The same is for the washing up area where washing liquid was provided! A great surprise!
Our pitch was a good size and we had no issues at all with the electricity provided.
One of the things I did like was the quiet times between 10pm and 8am. It was great to be able to get a good nights sleep!
I will definitely be going again.

Disliked As a couple travelling without children we found ourselves surrounded by them. A little for planning by the campsite could have helped, but it wasn’t a massive deal.

The only other thing was wind, some areas had natural windbreaks such as hedges and fencing. If the worst thing to happen was the weather then the campsite was amazing!

Liked Great facilities, clean and well kept site, loved the restaurant, food, shop and super friendly staff. Loved play areas, our grandkids had a brilliant time!

Disliked One area for improvement is the distance walking from our pitch (59) to the only shower / toilet / washing up facilities, particularly at night time.

Liked Lovely clean park, plenty of showers and toilets and a nice cafe/bar on site with a little shop for those essentials. Alpacas, goats, pigs, very friendly chickens, guinea pigs and rabbits to enjoy. The bus stops right outside the park, and the beach is a 5 minute drive away, or 20min stroll. Perfect location for Watergate Bay, Perranporth, Newquay, and lots of other beautiful scenic locations.

Disliked Nothing, just a lovely clean welcoming place to be.

Liked The site was lovely, and the facilities excellent. Good to be within walking distance of beach. Also, to be on bus route very helpful. Used bus several times. Reception and bar very helpful, especially on day we left van battery was flat. Please thank especially receptionist who used her own car and jump leads to get us started - she was really great. We had a really great week. Thank you.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear you had such a great time, even just for the night. It’s lovely to know you felt safe and comfortable, and that the kids enjoyed the park and all the space to play. We’ve worked hard to make both the outdoor and indoor areas family-friendly, so it’s great to hear that stood out. We can't wait to welcome you back again soon!

Liked The welcome,
The bar,the shop, the animals, watching families playing together in the field, the animals, the fabulous sized pitches, the great facilities and best of all , the VIBE! So beautiful to be amongst campers and locals of all ages just digging the gorgeous surroundings, laughing together and loving everything this fabulous campsite has to offer.

Disliked The only slight change would be to review pizza cooking and maybe part cook bases before topping them as they were terribly soggy in the middle and not fully cooked as the edges were.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your fantastic feedback! We're so glad you enjoyed the warm welcome, the bar, shop, animals, spacious pitches, and especially the overall vibe—we love that you felt the sense of community and connection around the site. It really means a lot to us to hear how much you appreciated the atmosphere and surroundings.

And thank you as well for the honest feedback about the pizzas. We were experimenting with a new dough recipe but we realise we need to stick to our original methods going forward!

We’d love to welcome you back again soon for more of the good vibes and fresh air!

Local attractions

The nearest beach, Porthcothan, is a small bay popular with families and an excellent spot for bathing and surfing. It’s made up of a narrow inlet with cliffs, sand dunes, rockpools and a little stream running down to the sea all combine to make it an idyllic place for children. The South West Coast Path is easily accessed from here too, for hikes to Newquay eight and a half miles to the south. By road, it’s five and a half miles from the farm to Padstow; a bus running from Padstow to Newquay stops outside the site if you’d rather leave the car behind. Other outdoor activities close by include surfing at Watergate Bay within 15 minutes’ drive or zipping around St Eval Kart Circuit within five minutes’ drive. For food, try the local pub with its spectacular views over Porthcothan Bay, or the Rick Stein seafood restaurant at Padstow. Heading towards the south coast, the Eden Project is 35 minutes’ drive away.
