  • Friendly site on a family-run farm in central Cornwall
  • A 15-minute drive to Newquay and 25 minutes to the Eden Project
  • Adventure playground on site; easy access to the A30
Killaworgey Farm’s location on the edge of the tiny village of Black Cross is about as central as it gets in Cornwall – and there’s good access to the A30 too, making this family-run site an excellent base for getting out to explore every corner of the county. This is a peaceful rural spot indeed, but it’s also very handy for all sorts of outings – it’s about a 15-minute drive to Newquay on the north coast or 25 minutes to Charlestown on the south coast. There are plenty of other attractions within a half-hour drive too, including the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lappa Valley Railway and Lanhydrock. Surfing, kayaking, coasteering, climbing and lots of woodland and seaside walks are all within easy reach too, so you’ll have plenty to keep you busy. In between all these outings you’ll be staying at a friendly site that’s been nicely thought out, with a cosy covered seating area and an adventure playground as well as a washing-up area and smart toilet and shower facilities with disabled access. Spacious pitches are around the edge of the hedged camping field, with the centre left open for playing games and running about. For safety reasons, campfires aren’t allowed at this site, but you are allowed to bring a barbecue (the site will provide you with blocks to keep them off the grass). There are plenty of options nearby for meals out or takeaways, including pubs, fish and chip shops and Indian and Chinese restaurants.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Beautiful site, lots of space. It was super quiet during my stay, but none the less it is a great place to stay. The toilets and showers are modern and kept very clean, a freezer for blocks and washing area are good too. Easy to get to the beaches of Newquay, the Eden project, lost gardens of Heligan, and the south coast this is a great location close to the major roads for easy traveling around Cornwall. The social space would be amazing when the site is busy (but this was not used dieting my stay as it was a very quite period).

Disliked: There was a HW problem one day, however this was fixed super promptly by the team and then there was lots of HW for the rest of my stay. Some minor things would help take the site up a level. Hanging hooks for towels/tops by the sinks when face washing etc would be amazing, a dedicated tap/space for washing wet suits, a clear sign for the drinking water tap.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Secluded, quiet. Clean facilities.

Disliked: Unable to check in with the number given, long grass meant walking around was more difficult.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your 10/10 review, we very much appreciate it. Apologies for not being able to contact us by phone when you arrived after reception had closed. One of our team did make sure she came over first thing in the morning to make sure everything was ok for you. The grass is a result of the warm and wet weather we have been experiencing! We have mowed a track to allow easy walking around the site, and are keeping it mowed on a regular basis, weather permitting.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The owners were very kind and helpful. Part way through our stay our tent blew away in high winds while we were off site, they kindly salvaged our belongings and tent and moved to a sheltered area for us, before phoning us. A friendly family run farm campsite - would recommend.

Local attractions

Which coast first? Well, the north is marginally closer – it’ll take you 15 minutes to drive to the surf hotspot of Newquay or 20 minutes to the wide sandy beach at Perranporth. The south coast is worth exploring too, for the fishing villages of Mevagissey (half an hour drive) and Fowey (35 minutes) or a stroll around the Lost Gardens of Heligan (half an hour). Meanwhile, somewhere in between the two, you can walk in Cardinham Woods (20 minutes), hire bikes for Camel Trail rides from Wadebridge (20 minutes), explore the biomes of the Eden Project (25 minutes) or take a ride on the Lappa Valley Railway (25 minutes). Springfield Fun Park is five minutes’ drive away for pony rides, tractor rides and animal feeding. To soak up some of the area’s history, slot in trips to the Wheal Martyn Clay Works (15 minutes), and the Shipwreck Treasure Museum (25 minutes), or explore the estates at Trerice (10 minutes) and Lanhydrock (20 minutes).
