  • Wild glamping site on a working farm overlooking Millendreath Valley
  • A five-minute drive from Looe and 10 minutes from Seaton Beach
  • Dog-friendly bell tents with gardens and access to outdoor kitchens
Don’t worry if it’s been a while since you’ve woken up to stunning views on all sides – your chance will come at Harriet’s Hideaway, where the off-grid bell tents overlook Cornwall’s rural Millendreath Valley. This small but scenic glamping site is part of a farm five minutes’ drive away from the fishing village of Looe in Cornwall, and anyone staying here is welcome to join the farmers to feed the animals. A typical day here might begin with an eggy breakfast, as the farm often has fresh eggs on offer in the mornings. Despite being off-grid, it has hot showers and composting toilets, as well as two outdoor kitchens with gas stoves that should certainly help your outdoor cooking plans. Each bell tent has a private garden with a barbecue and firepit (yes, yet more alfresco cooking options) and where dogs can run around freely. Add to that beds made up with fresh linen and you should be feeling quite at home already. All of these conveniences leave plenty of time for getting out and looking around the local area. Looe beach is a five-minute drive away from Harriet’s Hideaway; further out, the beaches of Seaton and Downderry are within a 15-minute drive. If you don’t fancy going far for refreshments, you may like to know that a fish and chip shop and a small convenience shop are a few minutes’ walk away. Larger shops can be tracked down in Looe.

Local attractions

Feeling in prime condition for some outdoor activities? Begin at Adrenalin Quarry (10 minutes’ drive), where you can get stuck into activities like zipwiring, axe throwing and go-karting. In Fowey (45 minutes), get yourself onto a sea safari, a rib ride or a kayak tour for some action in the sea. Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park (35 minutes) on the outskirts of Plymouth, by the sea, also has lots of outdoor activities. If wildlife watching appeals, pay a visit to the Wild Futures, The Monkey Sanctuary (10 minutes) or the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (an hour and 35 minutes). Some stunning gardens are also within reach for those who like a good stroll somewhere green, most notably the rainforest biomes of the Eden Project (35 minutes) and The Lost Gardens of Heligan (an hour). Not looking to go too far? Polperro (15 minutes) is a gorgeous village with a beach and harbour with a small assortment of fishing boats, and the Carnglaze Caverns (20 minutes) are just up north. The site is also on a handy bus route for Plymouth (40 minutes’ drive or an hour by bus).
