  • Cornwall caravan site on a working farm 10 minutes’ drive from Helston
  • A 10-minute drive from Gunwalloe Church Cove beach and Dollar Cove
  • Dog-friendly grass pitches; pubs and shops within 10 minutes’ drive
Always on the lookout for a quiet corner of Cornwall in which to lay your head? One that’s close to beaches, theme parks and woodland walks as well? Peaceful Gunwalloe Caravan Park may suit you very well, set as it is on a working arable farm less than 10 minutes’ drive from Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach, Flambards Theme Park and forest trails at National Trust-owned Penrose. With easy access to tree-sheltered grass pitches along hardstanding tracks, this is a no-frills site, owned and run by a family for families. Pets are welcome to tag along too, and there’s plenty of dog walking to be had along forested trails and shingle banks around The Loe freshwater lake and Carminowe Creek (10 minutes’ drive). Head to Gunwalloe village for a night out in the well-known Halzephron Inn (five minutes’ drive or half an hour’s walk), or try out waterfront pubs and takeaways around the fishing harbour in Porthleven (15 minutes’ drive). If you’re running short on provisions, historic Helston (10 minutes) has supermarkets for stocking up as well as pasty shops, pizzerias and burger bars if you’d like to give cooking a miss.

Liked Staff- from booking over the phone, arrival on site and our departure, the staff are so friendly and attentive.

Amenities- clean and ampul facilities. Great shower pressure and heat. Well stocked small shop for all camping last minute requirements. Small supply of kids toys, set next to the shower block and away from camper traffic.

Ambience- lovely ponies that are happy to greet campers. Well spaced pitches for plenty of privacy. Even on a ‘small’ pitch, we had room for a large 6 berth tent, car, campfire and chairs. Lovely setting with a great view of fields and countryside.

Disliked Could not find a fault with this site. We have stayed on back to back weekends and will definitely be returning.

Powered grass site (medium)

Liked Nice campsite, quiet & relaxing, we chose an electric hookup pitch, shower/toilet block clean & modern, dog enclosure a good touch

Disliked Couldn't let dogs off lead in dog enclosure as a few stones, fine for most breeds, I have whippets would be a risk of foot injuries if let them run about cos of their acceleration & speed, but wasn't an issue as was there to attend a race meeting & had no intention of any off lead during stay

Liked What an awesome little place!
Quick 2 night trip, 3rd camp of the year, was using the moving my daughter back to university as an opportunity for a quick trip down to kynance cove etc. Big pitches with small outlay. Toilet block clean with attention to detail. Nice owners and we will definitely return!

Disliked Only downside is waiting until 9am to purchase a coffee but that cant be helped. (Can ring the number if you want anything but I would feel cheeky haha)

Local attractions

When you fancy a serious yomp along the dramatic coastline, follow the South West Coast Path (10 minutes’ drive) to Kynance Cove (around three hours’ walk) on the Lizard Peninsula. Shorter hops include a shoreline walk to Porthleven (90 minutes), and strolls around the headland at Poldhu Cove (20 minutes). Walk or boat across to the ancient St Michael's Mount (half an hour) to look out for the giant's heart stone. The kids may well pester you until they get to spend the day at Flambards Theme Park (10 minutes’ drive), with its abundance of thrill rides (see if they’re brave enough to face the Hornet roller coaster). If it’s animals that float the family boat, consider a visit to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (10 minutes) to join sea lion feeding sessions and watch seals and puffins in their watery enclosures. History lovers might care to head for the harbourside National Maritime Museum Cornwall (35 minutes) in Falmouth to tour historic steamboats and let the kids loose on interactive, pirate-themed exhibits. When the weather is warm and you’d prefer to be outdoors, have a wander through the subtropical plantings and water features at dog-friendly Trebah Garden (half an hour).
