  • Family-friendly site one kilometre from the Coverack cove and harbour
  • On The Lizard Heritage Coast; 15 minutes' drive to Kennack Sands
  • Covered picnic area on site; valley walk and coastal paths nearby
Settle in for sea views at Coverack Camping on Penmarth Farm. A dog-friendly farm site with a few paddocks, this place is a splendid base for getting properly acquainted with the Lizard Heritage Coast. Within 15 minutes’ drive from Kennack Sands and half an hour from Kynance Cove, the Lizard Peninsula’s unique coves will surely make up a big-sized portion of your stay. From this site, there's a veering valley walk that takes just 15 minutes to get to Coverack, a fishing village with a cute harbour and a crescent of golden sand. It’s easy to spend hours in the harbour, sipping on beer in the beachside pubs, tucking into fish and chips or simply watching the fishing dinghies float in and out of the sea. For the brave, there’s harbour jumping to splash the afternoon away or you could choose to hire out a kayak or paddleboard if the waves further out look too inviting to ignore. Pick up your favourite sandwich fillings and hand foods for a picnic back on site, as there’s a covered picnic area fit for an alfresco evening. Aside from that, things are kept pretty basic on site with compost toilets and showers to wash off any sand stuck between your toes from the nearby coastal path. You could end the evening with a nice barbecue or a campfire, as they’re both allowed on site… or get straight to settling in for a snooze alongside your canine friend.

Liked: Great facilities and organised pitches. The ground was very wet form all the rain so it was good not to be sinking into the ground. Great little shop and very friendly host.

Main Field powered grass site

Liked: Very welcoming staff & owner, compost toilets very clean & plenty of them, spacious pitch, good walking route into the village, bit steep & slippery in wet weather but ok with suitable footwear. Clear directions to site from owner to avoid village as after arrival I checked the route via village & I would definitely been in trouble if I had towed the caravan that way.

Local attractions

The local coastal grooves might as well be out in competition with each other… clocking up some waves with the surf school at Kennack Sands (15 minutes’ drive), sculpting sandcastles on Gunwalloe’s fishing cove (20 minutes) or snorkelling and rockpooling at the National Trust’s Kynance Cove (half an hour) are just some of your choices. As well as beaches, there are art galleries in St Ives (50 minutes) and on the Penwith Heritage Coast (an hour), there’s a splendid barren landscape. Land’s End (an hour) is another of those alluring coastal parts, with ancient prehistoric sites and wild granite scenery, while St Michael’s Mount (40 minutes) takes you out of the wild side and onto a tidal island that’s home to a grand fortress (walk across the causeway to get there, if you time your visit right). There’s a big cocktail of things to do, that’s for sure, from the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (15 minutes) to Falmouth’s gardens, port and maritime museum (40 minutes) or Flambards Theme Park (20 minutes). Gardens also have their place – there’s the botanical Trebah Garden (35 minutes) or Eden Project's biomes (an hour and 20 minutes) further out.
