Bluebell Nursery: Grass pitch

General

  • Family-run site in the Cornish countryside, five minutes from Camborne
  • 10 minutes' drive from the beach at Hayle; 20 from St Michael's Mount
  • On-site café serving breakfasts, lunches and cream teas

Bag a berth at Bluebell Nursery, a secluded site in the Cornwall countryside with excellent facilities, and explore the very best bits of Cornwall.

The site is home to an American-themed café serving fresh meals including breakfasts and lunches or sweet treats such as homemade cakes and cream teas. Takeaway food can be acquired here too, and there’s a communal barbecue area for summer evening cookouts. A playground is on site to entertain kids (aged 13 and under) while they wait for their eats.

The surrounds are decidedly relaxed and rural here, but a handy location three miles from the A30 (Cornwall’s main artery) means easy access to all sorts of days out. Beaches, an animal park, St Michael’s Mount and the galleries of St Ives are all within a leisurely half-hour drive of the site. Even closer to base are the town of Camborne (five minutes’ drive) and the little village of Praze-an-Beeble – it’s 20 minutes or so's stroll down here for a pub, shop and chippy.

Got a hound in need of hols? Well-behaved dogs are welcome both at the site and in the outdoor seating area of the café, but they must be kept on a lead at all times.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

The restaurant is open between 26/03 and 30/10.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

A cable measuring at least 10 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

The campground/park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Absolutely loved the campsite it was very quiet and peaceful. My 8 year old daughter loved the park and being able to run around with her friends.

    Disliked:

Finding the campsite was a bit of a pain. The sat nav took us about 10-15 minutes away. Found a different postcode on another email and that took us to the campsite.

From the manager...

Thank you we’re glad you enjoyed your stay. We had a few campers that were took to a different location via the wrong post code. I’ll put on Pitchup to follow the correct postcode, sorry about this it’s the first time this has happened, I don’t know why.

This was our 2nd year of camping at this site and me and my partner absolutely love it! It's close to Gwithian beach and not a far drive from popular holiday destinations such as; Newquay, Perranporth, Truro, Hayle, Penzance and St Ives.

The camp site itself has toilet, shower and washing up facilities, a freezer to store ice packs, electric hook ups, a water supply, a play area, BBQ area and an on site cafe.

Staff are very welcoming and helpful.

A later check out time this year was much appreciated and meant our tent had time to dry out before packing away.

    Thank you!

Quiet site with friendly staff. The on site cafe looked yummy as well but we didn't get a chance to try it.

    Disliked:

Lack of hot water and only one shower in the men's wash block. That and an mistake by me booking a hard standing plot. Most places I've been let you put the van on hard standing and the awnings on the grass by the side. But not here, a little harsh on the feet and the ground sheet might never be the same again. However like I said that's on me.

From the manager...

Thank you for your feedback.
The hard standing pitches are for caravan or camper van not for huge tents. Maybe you should have booked a tent pitch. The solar system for the hot water is backed up by an Emerson heater, at busy times the tanks have to refill and reheat, that’s why we put a suggested time for showers. We pride ourselves on cleanliness the shower toilet block is thoroughly cleaned and sanitised daily.

Local attractions

Cornwall, as you may have heard, has a rather fine collection of beaches… the nearest to Bluebell Nursery being the lengthy stretch of sand around Hayle (10 minutes’ drive) and the three-mile expanse of sand and shingle at Porthleven beach (15 minutes). Pick your times carefully if you’re off to St Michael’s Mount (20 minutes) – walks can only be had at low tide and boat rides only at high tide.

Seals are fond of this area too, and you can set off to see them on boat trips from St Ives (25 minutes) or be guaranteed viewings at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (25 minutes). Follow that up with penguin feeding, eagle shows and other animal encounters at Paradise Park animal park and play centre (10 minutes).

Folk who like to delve into local history (or see some of the locations from the popular telly series) should head below ground at Poldark Mine & The Cornish Heritage Collection (15 minutes). A village and shops from ye olden dayes have been reconstructed at Flambards Theme Park (15 minutes) to provide a bit of a calming interlude between thrill rides.

Must see

  • Cornwall Industrial Discovery Centre (5.8 kilometres)
  • Flambards (11.2 kilometres)
