General

  • Almost-wild camping on a peaceful farm site near Storrington
  • A 20-minute drive to the coast and Arundel Castle; 40 to Brighton
  • A mile from South Downs National Park; pub 15 minutes' walk away

Little Thakeham Farm is a quiet site on a farm in the West Sussex countryside, a mile and a half (five minutes’ drive) from Storrington.

This is a fab location for folk seeking space to stroll or ride bikes: the edge of the South Downs National Park is about a mile away, and you can hit the coast with a drive of 20 minutes or so. Closer to home, there are plenty of public footpaths in the area around the farm, and it’s an easily doable 15-minute wander to the local pub (a cosy country inn with local ales and tasty home cooking, no less).

There are more eateries in the nearby town of Storrington, and it’s also the place to pick up whatever you need for a barbecue back at base. There’s plenty of space on site here but the owners keep numbers down to just a handful of pitches, so you’ll never have to share the place with too many other people.

Facilities on site have been kept to a bare minimum to preserve the peaceful vibe, but it’s not entirely wild camping as guests will have access to a portaloo and fresh water.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, 31 Aug 2021.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Group bookings of 1 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Group bookings of 5 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Minimum spacing of 50 metres between pitches.

Bookings must not be for more than 7 consecutive nights.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

There is a max speed limit of 15mph on the lane leading to the campsite.

Please note there is no running water onsite, hence no showers or washing-up area, or laundry facilities.

    Disliked:

The fact that there was no water available. I wrongly assumed that there would be as I've never been to a site without running water, and also because of the price.

Loved the location of this site, it was really secluded and not overfilled. We booked the last pitch on Thursday evening prior to the bank holiday for the Sunday evening and were pleased to find masses of space to choose where to pitch up when we arrived. The website says minimum 50m between pitches, we had double that. The site is what it is - take water with you and be aware there is only a single portaloo, it was kept clean, but the odour made it unusable for me. I'd suggest a second one tbh but that's only a small thing.

We missed meeting the owner, but then our Khyam only takes 10 min to pitch and we were off site for the majority of our stay.

A genuine little gem of a site.

    Disliked:

The only real negative is the access road - as others have mentioned one point is a total nightmare to navigate. Both myself and another camper arrived in VW's that were lower than standard and while you can get through without grounding by driving inches from the tree whose roots have ripped up the concrete, this really needs addressing, and having done this sort of work myself, it wouldn't take more than a day to remedy. When you're asking the higher end of pitch prices, you shouldn't be expecting your customers to deal with that on arrival. And definitely sort the signage to the site, or send your customers specific instructions. I understand that you have to use a public byway in part for access which restricts what signage you can display, but again, there are clear points you can display signage.

Loved that the camping spot was vast and only a limited number of pitches. Left to enjoy the surroundings but a nice welcome/hello from owner with suggestions of local walks/things to do.
Campsite was exactly as advertised - Only Amenities were a portaloo and no access to water, which is fine as we knew this.

    Disliked:

be very careful and slow on the road leading in - potential to do some damage to bottom of car! Nowhere to leave any rubbish so have to take with you.
