Pitches around the small lake (added by manager 26 Jul 2023)
Camping pitches alongside the big lake
Camping area around the small lake
Around our small lake

  • Simple pitches at a West Sussex farm near the village of Kingsfold
  • Leith Hill, Nymans and Gatwick Aviation Museum all 20 minutes' drive
  • Two lakes on site, plus Western town area (open on selected dates)
What will you find when you arrive for a stay at Wattlehurst Farm? Well, for starters this West Sussex farm site has not one but two lakes on site (known as the ā€˜big lakeā€™ and ā€˜small lakeā€™), providing a home for wildlife and some pretty views ā€“ especially at sunset, when the lovely colours shimmer across the water. Other things to expect from a stay here include simple facilities in the form of a toilet block and washing-up area ā€“ but no hot water, showers, wifi or electrical connections. Itā€™s a family-friendly place that also welcomes dogs, and youā€™ll be allowed to bring along a barbecue for your outdoor cooking. And hereā€™s something you probably didnā€™t expect ā€“ this site has its own Western town called ā€˜Deadwoodā€™, which is run by a local re-enactment group. Itā€™s open every other week, welcoming visitors to its saloon bar, school and forge (and with its own jail ā€“ naughty kids, take note). Ask on site to find out if thereā€™s anything going on while youā€™re staying. The farm is just outside the village of Kingsfold, which has a good pub that you can reach in about 10 minutes along a public footpath for a meal and some drinks. Just outside the pub is a bus stop for services to nearby Horsham and Dorking (both handy places for shopping and about 10-15 minutesā€™ drive away). If youā€™re a light sleeper itā€™s worth noting the site is under the Gatwick flight path ā€“ something thatā€™s a bonus if you like to lie back on your pitch and watch planes overhead.

Liked: Loved the bench at the pitch, it made life so much easier. The fire pit was already there, so my son was happy as all he wanted was a camp fire. Slight slope to pitch on but it didn't spoil anything. Loved being by the lake, fed the fish!. Facilities were clean and basic. The owners were helpful and friendly. I will definitely be visiting again.

Disliked: The planes overhead. Which is unavoidable.

Liked: Absolutely beautiful . We chose a perfect pitch next to the little white bridge and a Dock. The deadwood town was so.cool which was right near the campsite. The 2 ladies who.run the campsite are so.lovely & helpful. I loved watching the various planes that flew over. The huge dubai double decker was an amazing sight. The stars were stunning around the campfire & enjoyed some painting the next day looking at the beautiful lake...We will definitely return...Superb. Thankyou Linda & Sarah.

Liked: Brilliant site. Absolutely beautiful place with lovely, peaceful places to walk. A great place for wildlife, we spotted lots of birds including a kestrel, a deer and a beautiful fox. Very clean toilets. My kids loved watching the flights go over. We found it very peaceful and felt very safe. We used for a place to stay while in the area visiting family and it was perfect for us. Highly recommend and we will definitely visit again.

Disliked: Didn't bother anyone else but my partner took a few nights to get used to the aeroplanes going over (although they were the highlight of my son's stay)

Liked: So welcoming! It's a lovely location and perfect for us for a one-night stay (because of no showers or hot water). Being able to buy some firewood and borrow a firepit made all the difference too. Walked to the pub and pick blackberries along the way. Idyllic!

Local attractions

Staying at Wattlehurst Farm youā€™ll be just outside the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so there are plenty of places around to get out for a walk ā€“ popular spots like Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill and Tillingbourne waterfall are all about 20 minutesā€™ drive away. If you like your views more landscaped, make a trip to the National Trust gardens at Nymans (also 20 minutesā€™ drive) or Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens (25 minutes). With Gatwick Airport not far off, this is a fine area for flight enthusiasts ā€“ and you can get up close to various planes at Gatwick Aviation Museum (20 minutes) and Wings Aviation Museum (25 minutes). Flying of a different kind is on display at Huxleyā€™s Birds of Prey Centre and Gardens (15 minutes). For more involved day trips, you can get to the seaside at Brighton in about 50 minutes, or head to Holmwood station (10 minutes) for the hour-long train ride to London. Closer to home, outings might include Go Ape Crawley, Fishers Farm Park or a more grownup trip to Bolney Wine Estate (all 25 minutes away).
