  • Pop-up campsite in a Kent orchard five minutes’ drive from Higham
  • Rochester, Historic Dockyard Chatham and Diggerland 15 minutes’ drive
  • Quiet off-grid pitches shaded by trees; pubs within 15 minutes’ drive
Liking the sound of a deep dive into Kent countryside? A proper outdoor adventure with few frills attached? Sounds like Orchard Camping, a small pop-up site five minutes’ drive from Higham, a village once home to author Charles Dickens. As you may have guessed, the pitches here are in an orchard where you can pick apples, plums and pears when they are ripe and ready to eat. Driving down the track to the orchard can be a bit bumpy so take it slowly; please leave your cars in the allocated spaces and walk to your pitch (approximately 100 yards). Once you arrive in the camping orchard, all is peace and quiet and you have stunning views over surrounding farmland and woods. There are some fixed pitches, but if you want to camp amid the shade of the fruit trees and escape your fellow guests, just ask on arrival. Please bear in mind that there are no showers and no electricity, with simple facilities stretching to a portable toilet and a drinking-water tap. You can spark up barbecues by your pitch, but if that’s too much hard work, there are several pubs within 15 minutes’ drive. If you want to ditch the car for day trips out, taxis serve the site and the railway station is 10 minutes’ walk away.
