Level grass pitch in the orchard
Grass pitch - the russets
Whole site surrounded by trees
Large pitches

  • Orchard pitches on a fruit farm and plant nursery in Kent countryside
  • A 10-minute drive to Sissinghurst Castle Garden and 25 to Leeds Castle
  • Fresh eggs on site; five minutes’ drive to a pub
It’s not every day you get to pitch up among fruit trees, so grab the chance to do just that at Frittenden Orchard, where off-grid grass pitches are scattered in orchards on a Kent farm near Staplehurst. For even more of a back-to-nature vibe, you can wander the 11-acre woodland wildlife haven around the camping fields, where you might get to see foxes, badgers and deer. The site owners are happy to suggest local walks and sightseeing ideas for you. Free-range eggs are available from their own hens (just think of the breakfast fry-ups…). As this is a simple campsite, there’s no electricity but you will have a wifi connection and ice-pack freezing to keep your food fresh and chilled, as well as charging facilities for your devices, so you can keep in touch with the outside world. You can barbecue meals on grills brought from home, and pick up locally sourced produce from the handy store in Frittenden (five minutes’ drive), but if you’d rather someone else did your cooking while you’re away from home, there’s also a smashing pub in the village serving yummy burgers and local beers.

What customers say

A chill, no-frills park in stunning Kent countryside, with chilled vibes among the apple trees. Travellers rave about host Diane's warm welcome, plus heaps of space and freedom to pick your spot. Basic facilities are clean and functional, with handy extras. No showers, but most found it fine for a cruisy break. Great for walks and local sights.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked We were made welcome by the owner and advised of a walk through the woods and fields to a lovely local village and pub. We enjoyed this and collected some books to read on our return from the book "phone box". The area was lovely and peaceful and we really enjoyed our stay. Lovely hostess.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Liked Location is good, nice pub in the village

Disliked Massively overpriced - I didn't expect a shower, but there wasn't even anywhere to have a wash.
The toilet was a portaloo!!!!!
This is a £10 campsite as it stands, it will be a £25 (what we paid) campsite when they have some facilities; but I fear they will be charging more.
Feel Royally ripped off to be honest 🤷🏻‍♂️

From the manager: Thank you for your review. As I explained to your wife, who enjoyed her stay, all of the facilities listed on Pitch Up are provided on site. The site does not have an obligation to provide facilities that are not listed. So there is no washroom area (at present) other than the basins provided in the portaloos. However, there is copious amounts of hot water available, which you used. I'm sorry to say that your suspicions are wrong, as the price will remain the same for the rest of the season even when the new toilet/shower block and washroom are completed this month. I'm glad you enjoyed the location, as it's beautiful with easy access to woodland walks and the pub. You booked a one night stay with Campsites. co. uk and then booked for a second night with Pitch Up As you found the site well below par, scoring 1/10, it's surprising that you decided to endure another night. 🏕️

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked We liked Frittenden Orchard campsite for the fact that is was a flat field and very quiet.

Disliked We disliked paying £25 when the only facilities were a washing up area and a portacabin for a toilet (for the entire field of campers)!

Wait perhaps until later in the year before booking as they are planning on improving the facilities

From the manager: Thank you for your review. I'm sorry you didn't like paying £25 (of which 15 percent is paid directly to Pitch Up). The price is similar to other campsites in the area. The facilities on site, as mentioned on Pitch Up, are sufficient for the amount of pitches booked. As per listing the price includes toilet, washing up area, communal fridge, phone charging points, wi-fi, Chemical disposal point etc. Photos are provided, so that the customer knows exactly what to expect. You noted that a new toilet/shower block and washroom is currently being completed. As soon as it is finished, the details will be added to the Pitch Up listing. The price will remain the same for the rest of the season.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. You noted that there was no shower available. This site has no showers, as per listing on Pitch Up. However, showers and toilets are being built ATM, they will be ready May 26.
I'm sorry you had an issue with the portaloo. If you had informed me of this, it could have been sorted immediately.
See you on your next visit. 🙂

Local attractions

Kent is known for its historic stately homes – but which to visit first? Leeds Castle (25 minutes’ drive) has a host of activities, from guided tours to jousting tournaments and raptor displays, to keep families entertained all day. There are rose gardens to wander in Sissinghurst Castle Garden (10 minutes), and at moated Scotney Castle (25 minutes) you can follow trails through landscaped parkland. There’s more active stuff to do too; kids with energy to burn can wear themselves out on zipwires or mountain-biking trails at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest (20 minutes), or on the inflatable course at Bewl Water Aqua Park (25 minutes). Younger children can cuddle the cute creatures at Buttercups Sanctuary For Goats (20 minutes), and any rainy-day issues are taken care of by the indoor pool at The Weald Sports Centre (10 minutes). If you’ve treated the kids to their day out, you deserve some me-time too. How about heading into Royal Tunbridge Wells (40 minutes) to browse indie shops or lunch in the cosy bistros of The Pantiles? And if you fancy a night out, book tickets for shows at the Trinity or Assembly Hall theatres.
