  • Well-kept, peaceful and secure caravan park a mile from the coast
  • A 15-minute drive from Southampton and 20 from Portsmouth
  • Dog-walking area on site, plus kitchen facilities and wifi
Whether rain or shine, Sunnydale Farm Camping and Caravan Site is a convenient place to be – this well-kept park with level pitches on the outskirts of Hampshire’s Hamble is a mile from the Solent Way coastal path for frolics by the seaside and a 15-minute drive from Southampton (or a little longer on the bus from a stop around 10 minutes’ walk away). Bringing the pup with you? The dog-walking area on site caters for canines, and you could also take them into the nearby woodland or along the beach for longer lopes. Four pubs within strolling distance allow furry pals too – handy for easy meals if you’re at the park for just a night or so before voyaging by ferry to the Isle of Wight or Europe from Southampton or Portsmouth (25 minutes’ drive). For entertainment as you wait for the journey to kick off, it's also a quick skip away (five minutes) to Netley Abbey and the Royal Victoria Country Park’s lawns and woods (10 minutes) just off the Southampton Water estuary. Packed a bunch of belongings you're extra-keen to keep safe? No problem. Safety’s a big consideration at this park – it has CCTV and barriers with number-plate recognition for entry and exit. The site also has a laundry room with ironing facilities plus a freezer, kettle and microwave for your cuppas and ready meals; for alternative eats there are Chinese and Indian takeaways, a chip shop, bakery and a small supermarket in Netley Abbey village.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked The site itself was well maintained, the facilities were well kept and clean. Staff were really friendly.

Disliked We did have two staff members tell us different regarding where to put everything on the pitch, we also came back from a day out and someone was parked on our pitch after being told by staff to park there.

Fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site (maximum 8 metres)

Liked Clean tidy site, great toilet, shower and washing facilities. Beautiful flowers and no mowing which is a bug bear of mine when you are trying to enjoy your afternoon reading. Close to pick your own strawberry farm which we walked to and spent a lovely hour at. Able to arrive from 12pm so felt better value for money.

Disliked Bin area was very smelly due to the chemical disposal point but thats the joy of camping. Also pitches very close in rows so felt a bit like a car park almost but still had a wonderful stay, just happened to pick a very busy night to stay.

Recommend for mature people and couples, very quiet and relaxing place

Fully-serviced grass caravan site (maximum 8 metres)

Liked Great Staff went above and beyond for us and were so friendly. Very clean showers and toilets. This site is also well placed for visiting Netley and has a lovely pub within walking distance, although the road is busy you can cut through the garden centre.

Disliked Our pitch, we were furthest away from the facilities and our extension cable was too short (its 20m). We were loaned one but had to pay a deposit in cash. The site is surrounded by two roads, we didn't find it a problem but others did.

Local attractions

Heading down to Britain’s southern reaches for the Southampton International Boat Show, Seawork, Cowes Week or as a stopover enroute to the Isle of Wight or Europe by ferry? This centrally located site, a 15-minute drive from Southampton and 20 minutes from the Portsmouth park & ride, makes a terrific base. It’s also a mile from the sea strait to set your sights on the cruise ships sailing in and out of Southampton or to amble along the 60-mile long-distance footpath curving around the coast of Hampshire. Away from the water, have a nose slightly inland at the ruins of Netley Abbey, a 13th-century monastery and church; a touch further on to the east is Royal Victoria Country Park, which has a chapel with free exhibition, a fairy garden, an adventure playground and a miniature steam railway (open at weekends and in the school holidays). Southampton FC's St Mary's Stadium (10 minutes) and Hampshire Cricket's The Ageas Bowl and golf course (15 minutes) are easy to access; if you fancy more of a low-key session with the clubs, Hedge End (10 minutes) has a driving range and a dinosaur-themed crazy golf course.
